Questions Answers 1 Is the bid date for this project going to be pushed back?
Yes, it will be pushed to August 27, 2020 at 1:00 pm MST.
2 The Park is currently closed, how can we bid the project without a site visit?
To schedule a site visit while the Park is closed for COVID-19, please reach out to:
Augrelio Herman Pinales Chief of Facility Management Big Bend National Park and Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River
(432) 477-1114 - Office Phone

3 How will Park closures due to COVID-19 affect the project during construction? Would construction have to stop or would it be able to continue through park closures?
Once the contract is in place, the contractor will be able to complete the project as stated in the plans. The Park closure would not have an effect on contractor activities. The contractor will be allowed to work on the project while the Park is closed to the public.
4 Will Item 41801-1000 Asphalt Concrete Pavement Patch, Type 1 require the use of a MTV (Material Transfer Vehicle)?
An MTV is not required for the 41801 asphalt pavement patch locations.
5 Does item 20420-0000 Embankment Construction require stabilization grid?
Yes, stabilization grid is required as shown on Sheet A7 of the plans, Sta.
30+00 – 36+00 North Entrance Road Typical Section.
6 Sheet G1, are the Dowels required for the gabions? If so, should these be a different pay item? The detail indicates a pay length of 8 LNFT per dowel.
The “pay length” is an error. The dowels are to be included as part of the revet mattresses. Please see Amendment A002.
7 Can you provide more detail on the scope of the removing and resetting of the boulders? Are they just simply moved over a few feet for construction purposes or do they need to be hauled to a different location to be stockpiled?
The intent for removing and resetting of the boulders is to move the boulders a few feet away during reconstruction of curb and roadway locations as shown on Sheet A6, and then the boulders are placed back close to their original location.
8 Is there a traffic control plan to address the North Entrance Road travel lane grade difference during the embankment construction? If not, how is traffic to be handled during the embankment construction?
The anticipated traffic control for this location is shown on Sheet T24 Standard 635-6 of the plans, Single lane closure with flaggers. There is additional existing width of 10’ paved ditch on each side of the roadway to accommodate traffic through this location if needed.
9 The anticipated Award is September, 2020, will the completion date be moved back should the award process take longer than expected?
No, the contract completion date listed in the 108 Section of the SCR’s will not be moved back.
