About this file
This document provides details for a federal contract opportunity to perform seismic spot repairs at various locations within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The general scope of work includes repairing approximately 12 sites damaged during a 2018 period of increased volcanic activity and frequent earthquakes. Repairs will include installing compacted riprap fill and special rock embankment to plug voids, followed by restoring paved areas through linear grading, aggregate base, asphalt concrete pavement, and markings. An estimated 3,600 feet of guardrail removal and replacement is also required, along with repairing one historic stone masonry guardwall. Significant quantities of work include over 600 square yards of asphalt removal, nearly 1,000 cubic yards of keyed riprap, and over 3,700 linear feet of guardrail replacement. The engineer's estimate for the project ranges from $3-5 million. A site visit is scheduled for mid-October, with an anticipated advertisement date of October 3, 2019, bid opening of November 5, 2019, and award date of November 19, 2019. Construction work must be completed between January 15 and April 7, 2020.
