QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:
Question 1: Project Specifications called for ACM to be removed. Will the FAA allow roofing systems that encapsulate in place exiting roofs and negate roof removal costs?
Reason: Liquid monolithic roofing encapsulation, prevents roof removal, saves on project costs with less labor, fewer products, and meets EO, FAR and Net-Zero goals for waste reduction and
Co2 reduction.
Reference: EO 14008 and 14057 Construction Waste
Reduction, Co2 emission reduction.
FAA ANSWER: The contract documents do not call for significant roofing demo and installation. The only roofing to be removed and replaced is to allow the replacement of the hatch door and hatch door curb per detail 3/A001. The contractor is expected to coordinate with the roofing manufacturer, Sika Corporation, to maintain the warranty.
Question 2: The specification calls for 12” wall panels and Centria manufactured, will other size panels be allowed for new installation?
Reason: 12” panels aren’t made by Centria and are custom made—cost higher to produce.
FAA ANSWER: The panels shall match the size of the existing panels. Contractor shall submit on panels and shop drawings that they intend to use.
Question 3: Will the FAA allow manufactured wall panels made by Metl Span, which is owned by
Nucor? The Spec Part 2-Products, 1.1.1
Manufacturer, states “must” be manufactured by
Centria which is a Nucor company.
FAA ANSWER: The new panels to be used can be any approved manufacturer. The new panels shall match the existing flat panels and reveal.
Contractor shall submit on panels and shop drawings that they intend to use.
Question 4: The spec, states, panel must have a stiffening bead, but the FWDS panel called out in the same specification, doesn’t have a stiffening bead according to the manufacturer’s representative. Will other panel options be allowed?

existing.
Question 5: The Spec states the FWDS panel will be 1.5” deep, but contacting the Centria rep, they do not make the panels in that depth. Will other panel options be considered, or a SPEC drafted by FAA that meets current Nucor--Centria or Metl Span wall panel models?
FAA ANSWER: The contractor shall verify existing conditions and match depth prior to installation. Other panel options will be considered upon an approved submittal.
Question 6: How does the FAA want the wall panels on the 2nd and 5th floor patched? Re-skinned?
Corrosion cut-out and metal patch sealed/riveted to existing panel? Polymer fillers/Epoxy?
FAA ANSWER: The wall panels shall have the corrosion cut out and patched with polymer fillers/epoxy.
Question 7: Will the FAA provide a color palette for products to match existing site color scheme?
FAA ANSWER: All new product colors shall match existing. The color of the insulated metal panels, windows, coping, and related sealant is to be dark bronze. The color of the sealant on the cab roof shall be white.
Question 8: Will the CO/CS, extend proposal due dates to allow Centria representatives time to collect data, cross-reference the FAA specification for clarification with COR and review RFI answers?
FAA ANSWER: Yes.
Question 9: Will the FAA allow wall panel contractors with less than 10-years’ experience to install?
FAA ANSWER: The intent of the requirement is for experienced installers in this specialty.
Less experienced installers are allowed with examples of prior relevant experience.
Question 10: Will lay down area be provided inside the secure fenced area?

FAA ANSWER: See attached photo.
Question 12: Bilco safety gate has a standard swing gate in line with the direction of roof ladder access. There isn’t enough space for a swinging gate because of the parapet wall. Does the FAA want to special order a gate to swing from the side mount or have a safety chain and clasp in line with the existing ladder access?
FAA ANSWER: Per Detail 3/A001 the guardrail gate is to open to the left of the ladder. The
Bilco Rep stated this type of gate is referred as
“RL2-S factory modified to open opposite of the hold open arm side.” The gate is to be made of the same material as the guardrail and shall be self-closing.
Question 13: 01 10 00 Summary of work/ Part 1 -

19/Part 1-General/1.2 Related Work/A: States
Removal of Existing Roofing and Insulation. Is this a complete reroof or patching/repair job?
FAA ANSWER: It is just a patching job around the hatch door. The contractor is to coordinate with Sika Corporation to maintain the warranty.

MRS Flush Seam as product equal to that specified. Note that this product does provide superior warranties with our 25-years, 6-months substrate warranty vs. 1-year specified, plus a
35-year finish warranty specified, thus providing the owner with additional value.
FAA ANSWER: Sheet A001 note 7 requires a 2” insulated metal panel to match existing and the specifications reference an insulated metal panel.

perform pest control prior to the project starting or will it be on the contract to remedy once the project has started?
Question: Do you have the dimensions of the metal panels above the cab windows? They were inaccessible during the site visit as they were too high to reach without a ladder.
Question: Some of the drawings do not appear to be to scale based off measurements taken during the site visit. Are there As-Builts available as well that could be utilized to validate dimensions?
Question: Since there is only one 110-volt receptacle on the roof, is it possible to utilize power sources from inside the cab for additional power capabilities or will generator power have to be utilized?
