Questions and Answers SLN ATCT Re-Roof

697DCK-23-R-00327

1. Due to all the Antennas, Electrical, Plates for the poles, and lightning protection, can we remove the existing EPDM to the metal flashing for cost purposes? Install new EPDM just below the cap, Term-bar at that junction and counter flash over the Term-bar. Re- seal all penetrations. The tower would not lose any functions with this option.

FAA RESPONSE: Yes, this is an acceptable option. Include all details in the roofing shop drawings.

2. If no, will all of the antennas, electrical boxes, Antennas Wiring be turned off for the reroofing by the FAA?

FAA RESPONSE: Even though the answer to question 1 is “yes”, full coordination with the FAA will still be required to ensure no unscheduled service outages occur. Antennas, antenna wiring, and electrical boxes can be de-energized temporarily. FAA technicians will perform all antenna/wiring work. The Contractor will perform all electrical lock-out tag-out work.

3. What is your details around the 4” lines that go into the metal flashing on the Cab

Roof? These lines are mounted with a 2’x3’ box.

FAA RESPONSE: Drawings CE-D-4039-K1 and CE-E-4039-E15 have been attached for reference. As mentioned in Question 2, only FAA technicians can open the bulkhead enclosures, and no work can be performed by the Contractor to temporarily loosen/remove the enclosures until the FAA COR provides approval to do so.

4. With the wiring inside the box, will the FAA take care of the wiring? To my understanding these boxes are for the antennas.

FAA RESPONSE: See answer to Questions 2 and 3.
