ZDV AHUs 1-10 Replacement Project
RFO 697DCK-22-R-00179
Questions & Answers
1. Confirm the required access paths for all AHUs. This is typically most helpful when provided on a floor plan map of the facility, if possible.
a. AHU access paths will depend on final AHU dimensions and contractor’s desired installation method. Please see Attachment 1- Guide Plan – Floor 1 for acceptable paths depending on AHU dimensions.
2. Confirm if temporary cooling is to be provided as part of the project.
a. Temporary cooling is not necessary as part of this project. AHUs provide redundant cooling so long as no more than one unit is out of service per floor.
3. Confirm if the hot water or chilled water loops have glycol and, if so, the % of water/glycol mixture.
a. Neither loops contain glycol.
4. Confirm if temporary ventilation will be required when SF-1 is replaced.
a. Temporary ventilation is not required.
5. Confirm if alternative air handling unit manufactures are acceptable, other than Data Aire.
a. Alternative AHU manufacturers are acceptable; Data Aire was the basis of design.
6. Confirm if alternative supply fan manufactures are acceptable.
a. Alternative supply fan manufacturers are acceptable; Twin City Fan was the basis of design.
7. Confirm if permit is required.
a. Need more clarification on which permits. The FAA has internal permits for construction activities.
8. Confirm if taxes are exempt.
a. The contractor is considered consumer of goods when providing construction services to the FAA, therefore, the project is not tax exempt. See RFO Section B, B001, “The offered price must include all costs related to…(b) federal, state, and local taxes.”
9. Confirm warranty period.
a. Please refer to the specific specification sections and contract clauses as warranty periods differ for the type of equipment and material installed.
10. How will Johnson Controls be involved in the project?
a. Johnson Controls is not involved unless subcontracted by the prime. The facility operates via Schneider Electric Controls and utilizes their hardware, software and customer support for servicing and warranty.
11. Are we to provide the equipment? AHUs?
a. All equipment and materials necessary for the project are to be provided by the contractor.
12. Can panel schedules for all electrical panels that are affected by this project, along with existing breaker sizes, be provided?
a. See the following panel schedules Attachments:
Attachment 3 – PnL – E-12-A-A Attachment 4 – PnL – E-12-A-B Attachment 5 – PnL – E-12-A-C Attachment 6 – PnL – E-12-A-D Additional panel schedules are available upon request, if needed.
13. What are the supply lines’ sizes to the units now?
a. Existing pipe sizes are indicated on the demolition sheets of the drawing set.
14. What are the lines made of (copper, PVC…). They are covered in insulation so we could not see them.
a. AHU piping is made of Copper.
15. Do all the lines need to be reinsulated?
a. Yes. Insulation, wherever removed for any reason, needs to be replaced as specified in sections 024119 Selective Demolition and 230719 HVAC Piping Insulation.
16. Can we store the new chiller in the space downstairs as we replace them as opposed to having to deliver one per installation?
a. No chillers are necessary as part of this project. Demolished and new AHUs may be stored in the basement in room B12A of the Automation Wing.
17. Do we need a fire burn permit (because we will need to cut a soldier pipe) or can we just coordinate when we will need to cut so there is no surprise of the smell of something burning in the building?
a. FAA Hot Work Permits will be necessary for every location where hot work will occur and for every day of the occurrence. These will be coordinated post award.
18. Will you allow a Pro Press connection versus Die Lec Tric.
a. Pro Press connections are not directly comparable to dielectric fittings. Need more clarification on question intent.
19. JCI manages the controls in the building. Can you provide a contact for JCI since their controls and equipment are proprietary and we will need to coordinate the upgrades and any modifications necessary?
a. Schneider Electric manages controls for the facility. Their point of contact is Herbert Walker at Herbert.Walker@secritical.com or 443-832-8275.
20. Fire suppression system integration – Who is currently managing/controlling your suppression systems? Can you provide a contact so we can coordinate any upgrades as part of the modification?
a. Frontier Fire Protection manages the fire suppression system for the facility. They can be contacted at 303-629-0221.
