Q&A Sheet Houlton Roof

SIR 6973GH-23-R-00086

1) What is anticipated start date?

Late May to early June

2) Are we including a standard triple 4 vinyl soffit on this? White in color?

Yes, Triple 4 Vinyl Soffit or similar in white for the entire perimeter

3) When the existing roof is removed are we responsible for keeping the building water tight?

Yes

4) Exothermic connections, can hydraulic crimps be used for a substitute ? Cad welding is steered away for safety reasons and we use hydraulic crimps on all projects Exothermic connections are required.

5) Does the electrical panel board on site have room for a breaker. Assuming 120 volt 20 amp circuit?

6) Class II down conductor size?

28 strand, 14 AWG, ½” diameter down conductor.

7) Copper bulk plate in junction box , no size specified Contractor shall follow guidance in FAA-STD-019f (attachment to SOW)

8) Will we be able to work longer hours if needed?

Anything beyond the agreed upon work hours (Monday through Friday between the hours of 07:00 AM to 4:00 PM or as otherwise coordinated with COR) will be subject to the availability of SSC personnel and approval of the COR. Contractor shall obtain approval of COR a minimum of 48 hours in advance of any proposed additional work hours.

9) Do the beams need to be capped after they are cut?

Beams to be capped or boxed so as to not create a nesting area for birds or rodents.

10) Small foundations for the support poles, removed or cut below grade?

Contractor to remove concrete piers / footings to a depth of 12” (min) below existing grade.

11) Do you want a continuous ridge vent on the roof?

12) Is there a roof system that can be substituted for the 138T system? The reason being, I have called all over the state to find a roofing sub for the metal part and most have never heard of this type of system. Plus it's only probably 8 square of roof.

We are looking for a 24 gauge standing seam metal roof. The basis of design is 138T by Architectural Building Components, Houston, TX, but substitute products may be acceptable (submittal required).

13) Please confirm whether the scope of work should include the removal of (4) existing roof support post concrete piers and footings.

Contractor to remove concrete piers / footings to a depth of 12” (min) below existing grade

14) Please confirm that the proposed cutting and removal of the steel beams, as stated in the SOW, line 7, will not create a structural deficiency to the remaining existing roof framing system.

Contractor to bid on SOW as written

15) Please confirm the SOW drawing “Roof Section A-A” is accurate depiction of roof deck slope at ¼” per foot from the center of the roof to the leading edge of the roof and that the roof pitch is created by wooden sleepers attached to the structural steel below the T&G roof deck.

Confirmed

16) Have there been any recent ground penetrating radar surveys conducted on the project ground area to determine location of underground utilities? No. If yes, please provide results. If no, please confirm whether this should be part of the project scope.

No.

17) Please verify the possible site conditions will be for vehicular and equipment access and movement around the building during the intended timing of project start date. Please provide any known vehicle weight restrictions for area roads that could impact site access for heavy-duty trucks/equipment. Please confirm whether there are any known obstructions, landscaping features, or uneven ground that could impede access around the building perimeter for a telehandler or small crane.

No known vehicle weight restrictions for area roads that could impact site access for heavy-duty trucks/equipment. No known obstructions, landscaping features, or uneven ground that could impede access around the building perimeter for a telehandler or small crane. Contractors are encouraged to look at the site on Google Earth or similar (46.03949,-67.83414).

18) Please clarify the location of the proposed 30” steel overhang, as the SOW, Line 7 states at the front of the building, looking at the “Roof Plan” on the “New Roof Elevation” sketch, it appears to be on either the West or East gable of the building.

The gable ends will be at the front and back of the building, front of the building faces east. Please note that SOW has been revised to include an overhang of 30” at all four sides of the building.

19) Please confirm the installation location for the new roof trusses is over the 30” steel overhang, thus placing the gable at the outer end of the 30” overhang?

Confirmed. Please note that the SOW has been revised to include an overhang of 30” at all four sides of the building.

20) In the photo provided by the FAA, there appears to be a 3/8” crushed stone landscaped around the perimeter of the exterior walls of the building. Please provide depth and perimeter measurements of stone extending from the exterior walls. Please confirm whether the crushed stone perimeter extends out to the proposed antenna foundation location.

Approximately 6” deep for 3/4” crushed stone, perimeter extend 10’ from building on three sides, with pavement (partial) along the front of the building. The crushed stone does not extend to foundation location.

21) Please confirm whether the counterpoise is buried beneath the crushed stone perimeter. If yes, please confirm whether the contractor will need to remove and replace stone in the work area where tying new bonds into the existing underground counterpoise system is required.

Counterpoise is buried beneath the crushed stone perimeter. Any area impacted during the course of work shall be restored to its previously existing condition.

22) There are (2) depicted PVC conduits in FAA photos, which appear to be entering the building through the exterior wall approx. 12” below the existing exterior channel steel framework. Please confirm the government's intended requirements for these conduits during and after demolition of the existing roof system.

Conduits are to be cut off at building, sealed with ‘pest block’ spray foam or similar, and then covered with matching vinyl siding.

23) Please confirm the existing material of the exterior walls.

Metal wall panels, strapping, foam board insulation, and vinyl siding.

24) Please provide manufacturer details for the existing vinyl siding.

Vinyl siding as purchased from Hammond Lumber Company in Bangor, ME (manufacturer unknown).

25) Please provide manufacturer details for the fiberglass teepee and confirm the fastening materials/method of the teepee to the existing roof structure. Please confirm dimensions of the existing fiberglass teepee and comment on whether it's panelized.

Approximate dimensions; 16 feet tall, 6 foot diameter at the base, 2” wide flange all around screwed / bolted to roof deck (covered with roofing cement / flashing / roofing material). Tepee weighs approximately 800lbs. It is not known if the tepee is panelized, but the intent is to keep it in one piece.

26) Please confirm the dimensions of the existing DME antennae and comment on whether it is to be reinstalled on the new foundation or whether a new DME antenna is to be installed on the new foundation New antenna.

27) In reference to the “DME INSTALL ANTENNA FOUNDATION DESIGN” Drawing “BML- 1801792-S001”, please confirm the relevancy of NOTE 7 to this project: “Concrete foundation shall be layout by GPS by a licensed state of NH (or Maine in this case) land surveyor”... The drawings are from the Berlin Airport in New Hampshire and the conditions may have been different than they are in Hodgdon, ME.

Note 7 does not apply. Please note that the 30’ dimension as called out in the sketch is a maximum distance from the building. The actual location will be verified in the field with the COR and may be closer than 30’.

28) Have there been any recent geotechnical surveys conducted on the project ground area to determine the soil characteristics of the soil? No. If yes, please provide results. If no, please confirm whether this should be part of the project scope.

No.
