Pavement Preservation Of Maintenance Service Road, Maintenance Parking and Quarters Parking and Pavement Sealing of the Knob Creek Parking Lot Project ID: 89504 Other Project ID:

Project Status: Proposed Compliance Status: Closed Complete

PMIS ID: 277831

Sensitive: No Project Creation Date: Jul 16, 2019

NEPA Status: CE Approved Project Target Start Date: Aug 1, 2019

Description:

This project is for the pavement preservation of the Maintenance service road, maintenance parking and Qtrs parking. The estimate for this project was derived from the South East Region (SER) Pavement Preservation Program Recommendation. The cost for this project may change upon investigation from the Pavement Preservation Team. The work for this project will include:

Light rehabilitation of road and parking areas.

This project is a L3R - Light Rehabilitation according to the South East Region (SER) preservation recommendations.

This project is performed on PP Class 6 Principal Park Road which constitutes the main access route for park operations; Section ID ABLI-0400-00.000 Route Number 400.

This project also includes the maintenance Area Parking lot that serves operational and administrative needs; Section ID ABLI-0903-00.000 Route number 903 and Qtrs Parking area; Section ID ABLI-0905-

00.000 Route number 905.

The work will consist of applying a preventive maintenance action to the roadway surface that includes minor spot repairs (patching), crack sealing and the application of a surface seal or non-structural overlay.

Preventive maintenance is a pavement preservation tool to provide cost effective treatment to the surface of a structurally sound pavement to preserve the system and retard future deterioration. Since preventive maintenance treatments are inexpensive in comparison to resurfacing or reconstruction projects, a pavement preservation program is a cost-effective means of meeting pavement performance goals. Pavement preservation is an important tool in practicing sound asset management.

Please note that this project also covers the sealing of the Knob Creek parking lot located at the Boyhood Home Unit at Knob Creek. The parking lot will only be sealed due to the fact that it was installed in 2014.

Description:

This project is for the pavement preservation of the Visitor Center entrance road and the Visitor Center parking lot. The work for this project will include:

Removal of the parking blocks within the parking lot, 1 ½" milling of existing asphalt on the entrance road and parking lot, application of the tack coat along the entrance road and parking lot, replacement and compaction of 1 ½" of new asphalt, restriping of the entrance road and parking lot to the original layout, installation of the old parking blocks and replacement of two asphalt speed humps along entrance road.

This project is a L3R - Light Rehabilitation according to the South East Region (SER) preservation recommendations.

This project is performed on PP Class 1 Principal Park Road which constitutes the main access route for park visitors Section ID ABLI-0012-00.000 Route Number 12.

This project also includes the Visitor Center Parking Area that serves public and administrative needs.

Section ID ABLI-0900-00.000 Route number 900.

This project will take place within the existing footprint.

Pavement Preservation for Fort Donelson National Battlefield Project ID: 50783 Other Project ID: PMIS 208592

Project Status: Proposed Compliance Status: Closed Complete

PMIS ID: 208592

Sensitive: No Project Creation Date: Jan 22, 2014

NEPA Status: CE Approved Project Target Start Date: Oct 1, 2018

Funding: Funded in PMIS

Description:

In cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration a pavement preservation project will done for the roads and parking areas of Fort Donelson National Battlefield and National Cemetery. The preservation project will consist of the following.

Crack Sealing; Used to prevent water and other incompressibles from entering the pavement. Cracks may require routing prior to filling with sealant material.

Chip Sealing; A surface treatment in which a pavement surface is sprayed with emulsified asphalt and then immediately covered with aggregate and rolled. This is used primarily to seal the surface of a pavement and to improve surface friction. As an option, a fog seal may be placed on the top to help hold the aggregate in place, reduce raveling of the chip seal, and improve visibility of striping, or a cape seal used to provide a dense, waterproof surface with improved skid resistance. Often used on pavements showing higher distress levels.

Minor spot repairs; Patching; patching area should not exceed 5% of the total pavement area.

Justifications

Preventive maintenance is a pavement preservation tool to provide cost effective treatment to the surface of a structurally sound pavement to preserve the system and retard future deterioration. Since preventive maintenance treatments are inexpensive in comparison to resurfacing or reconstruction projects, a pavement preservation program is a cost-effective means of meeting pavement performance goals. Pavement preservation is an important tool in practicing sound asset management.

Measurable Results

Road and parking area pavement surfaces throughout the park will be improved and the life extended.
