1. Free or total chlorine count?
- AWA (Altoona Water Authority ) treats all HVH water at their chemical treatment plants.
Vendor will need a Chlorine test kit sensitive enough to detect Chlorine levels below 2 ppm and up to 10ppm. Free Chlorine may be measured when it is known that chlorine is the method of disinfection, as opposed to monochloramine, bromine, or another disinfectant. Otherwise , a measure of total chlorine must be taken. These are CDC guidelines to testing Legionella.
2. Would this be the same for PSSH, DVVH & GMVC?
- Yes So at HVH a FREE sample can be taken b/c we don’t have a Monochloramine system in place and we rely on our utility provider to condition the incoming water.
If the others have chlorine injection systems then they would need to test for Total chlorine numbers.
3. Disinfectant used for water treatment (by facility or water authority)?
- Both GMVC and PSSH utilize a sanipur monochlorimine system. DVVH, the city uses chlorine.
