About this file

This document is Appendix 1 of the Mineral Mountain Mine Closure Project specification, prepared for the State of Colorado, detailing feature work lists for mine opening closures and hazardous mine safeguarding activities. The project encompasses two primary work items: Item 4.0 involves the installation of mine closures across multiple mine features, and Item 5.0 addresses safeguarding additional hazardous mine openings. The project includes 17 guaranteed closure features across the Mineral Mountain and surrounding areas (including Pomeroy and Northern sites), with an additional 3 non-guaranteed safeguard features. Work activities include machine backfill, polyurethane foam (PUF) plug installation, adit door closures with bat access provisions, corrugated steel pipe installations, native rock bulkhead construction, and monolithic concrete plugs, depending on specific feature characteristics and depths ranging from 3 feet to 50+ feet.

The closure methods are tailored to each mine opening's physical characteristics, including dimensions, depth, lining composition, and drainage conditions. All work requires implementation of stormwater sediment control measures with biodegradable waddles (25 to 50 linear feet per feature) installed under the Project Manager's direction. Features designated as historically eligible require designated backfill borrow areas flagged by the Project Manager, with strict prohibitions against unauthorized material sourcing. Specific technical specifications are referenced for each closure type, including Sections of Work Standards (SWS) and corresponding drawings. Access constraints are significant, with most features requiring travel along long, rugged roads (2.5 to 4 miles), and some features requiring hand labor or limited machine access due to steep, heavily wooded slopes. Bat exclusion protocols are specified for features with existing drainage, and concrete quality control field sampling is required for monolithic plug installations.
