About this file

This is a Construction Documents file for a federal construction project at Wichita VA Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. The project, identified as VA Project No. 589A7-23-305, involves preparing a site for Choice Dining Equipment installation. The construction documents were dated May 17, 2024, and were prepared by Alesia Architecture P.C. in Elkhorn, Nebraska.

The project scope encompasses mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems modifications. Plumbing work includes installation of new 12"x12" floor sinks adjacent to relocated sinks, at new hot wells, and under a proofer oven, plus a new handwash sink with direct waste piping. Domestic cold and hot water systems will reuse existing mains, with a new domestic hot water line routed to a kitchen washdown location. A new instantaneous steam-to-domestic hot water generator will replace the existing unit in kind. Natural gas lines will be extended to serve new cooking equipment on the north side of the hood with a new emergency gas shutoff valve. For HVAC, the existing rooftop air handling unit will remain in service with new diffusers and grilles provided for the kitchen, office, and breakroom spaces. The existing terminal unit FPVAV-2-5 will be replaced with a new unit sized for the new load. All existing kitchen hood and exhaust systems will remain unchanged. Fire protection modifications include removal of existing sprinklers in construction areas with temporary upright protection during construction, followed by new sprinklers providing NFPA 13 compliant coverage for the new space layout. The electrical design adheres to applicable codes including ADA, NFPA standards, and VA Master Construction Specifications, utilizing Electrical Metallic Tubing as the primary raceway with Rigid Galvanized Steel where subject to damage. The design is noted as complete with all MEP work established and shown on drawings.

This will be direct piped to waste.

• Domestic Cold and Hot Water system: The existing water system mains will be re-used for the handwash sinks and new prep sink location. A new domestic hot water line will be routed to a new kitchen washdown location adjacent to the existing exterior door.

• A new steam to domestic hot water generator will be provided. This new generator will be instantaneous style with a full piped and controlled assembly. This new unit will replace the existing one in kind.

• Natural gas lines will be extended to serve the new cooking equipment on the North side of the hood. A new emergency gas shutoff valve will be provided in this line and tied into the existing hood system.

B. Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Systems (HVAC)

• The existing rooftop AHU serving the kitchen will remain in place and be used for any new HVAC needs of the space. This unit will be tested for existing airflows during the design phase. New diffusers and grilles will be provided in the kitchen space and be installed in the same location as the removed equipment. New diffusers will be provided for the office and breakroom and will be fed from the existing mains to new locations as required for the new layout.

• Existing terminal unit FPVAV-2-5 will be replaced with a new box sized for the new load. This new box will utilize the existing controls and hot water piping.

• Exhaust: All existing kitchen hood and exhaust systems will remain. No new exhaust equipment will be added.
