About this file

This document is a comprehensive specification manual for a fire alarm system replacement project at the Fargo VA Medical Center. The project involves a complete overhaul of the existing fire alarm infrastructure across multiple campus buildings, replacing the current analog system with a new digital addressable voice notification system. The specifications detail technical requirements for installing a fully functional fire alarm system, including conduit, wiring, control panels, annunciators, notification devices, pull stations, and detectors.

Key technical specifications include a requirement for a fully addressable fire alarm system with digital encoding, fast response times (under 5 seconds), and specific wiring configurations (Class X and Class B circuits). The system must automatically transmit alarm signals to a central station and provide digitized voice messages identifying the specific area of alarm initiation. The project has a 540-day performance period, and the contractor must provide a 5-year warranty with comprehensive maintenance and emergency service. The work requires NICET Level III certification for design and supervision, and installers must have a minimum of 2 years of fire alarm system installation experience.
