QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

1. Suitability of Onsite Material Is the onsite material acceptable for use as backfill?

Government Response: Yes, the onsite soil may be used if it meets the requirements outlined in specification section 31 20 11 and the geotechnical report.

2. Has a proctor been formed on onsite material?

Government Response: No, a proctor has not been performed on the onsite material and soil testing has been limited to what is provided in the geotechnical report. The contractor is required to test material as required in specification sections 01 45 29 and 31 20 11.

3. Onsite excess spoils disposal Is there a dumpsite available onsite for excess soils or will they have to be hauled offsite?

Government Response: Onsite excess soils shall be hauled offsite by the contractor at their own expense.

4. Designated Construction Route Is there a designate construction route for ingress and egress to the worksite?

Government Response: Yes, the contractor is to close Riverview Drive in the designated locations shown on sheet O-101. The contractor’s staging area and project area shall be enclosed with a temporary chain-link fence. See sheet D-101 for more information.

5. Grid line On Sheet B101 boring locations there is a straight line that runs close to B101 and over the top of B103. This line runs from the left side of the page to the right side of the page. It is not a contour line. What is this line?

Government Response: The line means nothing. Disregard from the sheet.

6. Soils Report Clarification The soils report shows rock encountered at varying depths which would indicate a rock ledge in the area of the excavation. If the foundation fails on differing material (rock and soil) are we to install on varying types of material?

Government Response: It is acceptable to support foundations on a combination of clay soils, engineered fill, and moderately to slightly weathered bedrock. If the bedrock is highly weathered and fractured, some over-excavation would be required.

7. Elevations on structural drawings There are no elevations on the structural drawings and it references the architectural. Please confirm the top and bottom of footing elevations.

Government Response: Top of Footing Elevations (TFE) is shown on sheet S-101. Footing size is referenced on sheet S-101 Foundation Plan Notes.

8. Foundation drain elevation Geo tech report page 10 shows a footing drain at/alongside the footing. If you take the elevation on the grid line C4 on page C108 the flow line of the perforated footing drain is 787.50 this would put it approx 1'0" below the bottom of the footing at grid line C4 and 1'6" below the footing at grid line 4A. Is the footing drain to be install per grades on C108 or the Geo tech report?

Government Response: Revised cleanout and catch basin invert elevations have been revised. See attached revised Sheet C-108.

9. Foundation drain Sheet 4/S502 does not show drain tile in the upper backside of wall. Is one required?

Government Response: Yes, reference CO-22 and CO-25 on 1/C-108.

10. Benches and Trash Receptacles Typically for the VA cemetery projects we see the S-424 with a special hinged lid for vases and S-42 with a convex lid and a self-close door for trash. The detail image reflects this. However, the specs state that the two receptacles will be the same model. Should the trash and vase receptacles be the same model? As for the benches, I could use a little help selecting the model. The details show a backed bench with no end arms and horizontal slats. However, the specs state there should be end armrests and vertical steel slats. Should we base the design on the specs or the detail image? Judging by the specs I think RB-28 and the matching RB-12 is probably correct, but I wanted to confirm.

Government Response: Provide the trash and vase receptacle as shown on drawing sheet C-501, detail 1. There are two different bench types for this project; 6’ bench without a backrest, 6’ bench with a backrest. Both benches shall have end armrests and may have vertical or horizontal steel slats. These benches would correspond to the RB-28 and RB-12 models.
