The spoils shall be removed monthly at the contractor’s expense to prevent buildup and shall not be visible over the wall.
3. PROCEDURE
A. All gravesite excavations for a casket or cremation shall be completed a minimum of one hour prior to the interment services scheduled time. If an outer container is to be used, the gravesite excavation shall be completed to allow the vault to be pre-set in the grave one hour and fifteen minutes prior to the service. All gravesites shall be ready for viewing by the next of kin within one and one-half hours after the interment service.
B. The operator responsible for excavation of the gravesites shall have a minimum of 5 years of experience operating excavation equipment and 2 years minimum experience excavating gravesites. Excavation of gravesites in existing sections requires great care to avoid damage to internment already in place and to surrounding burials. The contractor is responsible for any damage to previous internments while excavating.
C. Gravesites classified as sensitive burials shall require a Cemetery representative or COR onsite prior to the excavation beginning. The COR shall notify the contractor in advance on these gravesites. These sensitive burials require extreme care during excavation and may require hand excavation to prevent damage to prior internments or surrounding gravesites. Cost for sensitive gravesites is the same as a normal casket internment.
D. It will be the COR's responsibility to notify the Contractor of any underground utilities in the vicinity of gravesite excavation.
E. Graves sites shall measure 5’ x 10’ or 4’x 8’unless otherwise advised by the COR and shall be excavated to five (5) feet or seven (7) feet depth, position shall be either left half (LH), right half (RH) or center line (CL) depending on the number of interments and position of previous interments. Excavation shall be to a minimum width and length of 4 inches greater than the outer burial vault. Normal excavation is 36 Inches wide by 96 inches long. Oversized excavations may require larger dimensions. The COR will notify the contractor of any oversized burials and the dimensions.
