About this file
This document provides specifications for a federal construction contract opportunity to build an inpatient medicine bed addition at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. The contract will be awarded as a firm-fixed-price contract through a tiered evaluation process, with priority given to SDVOSB, VOSB, small business with HUBZone or 8(a) concerns, and then large businesses. The work includes demolishing existing structures, constructing a third-floor addition and renovating other areas to create a continuous inpatient unit, along with building vertical circulation additions and modifying mechanical, electrical and life safety systems. The performance period is approximately 466 calendar days. The contracting agency is the Department of Veterans Affairs Technology Acquisition Center Austin. Questions must be submitted in writing by mid-March 2024, and the period of performance will begin upon notice to proceed in mid-2024.

These areas combine to form a continuous inpatient private bedroom acute medicine unit. A vertical circulation addition with 2 elevators shall also be built with this project serving all floors from Basement thru 8th floor for patient transport. Additional work is required to accommodate location of 2 portable MRI machines that will serve patients during the construction period. This work is located near the Ambulance-only entry and on the Honors Annex Campus which is a few miles to the east.

This includes any work which could potentially block access to the facility or cause disruption to the normal operations of the medical center. Work within Patient Care areas is to be accomplished during the hours of 9pm to 5am. As approved by the COR. The work will have to be carefully planned and phased for minimal disruption to medical center activities. Under no circumstances will any area of the building be shut down and all services must remain operational.
