Upgrade Physical Security Deficiencies Grand Island Pre-Bid Questions Answers are in RED

1. According to note #7 on sheet MH100, fire sprinkler heads are to be provided inside and outside of the new IT room in building #7. This building is not currently protected by a fire sprinkler system. Is their plan to add a new system to the entire building, just the IT room, or neither? Neither. Since the Boiler Plant is not currently served by a fire sprinkler system, there is no need to provide sprinkler heads inside and outside of the new IT room. If they want a new system or just protection in the IT room, what is the supply (i.e. domestic water line, new sprinkler underground)? Previous sprinkler response applies here as well.

1. On pages AC114, and AC115 of the provided set of plans, the reflected ceiling plans show the ceiling is to be left as existing. Are the fluorescent light fixtures in these rooms to be chain hung from the existing ceiling deck?

1. AC114: exposed structure; per note 17 page EY600 hang lights at 9’-0” AFF, fixture type “A” and “A1”. Luminaire Schedule E-401, indicates pendant. (although pendant is spelled wrong).

1. AC115: exposed structure; per note 21 page EY700 hang lights at 9’-0” AFF, fixture type “A” and “A1”. Luminaire Schedule E-401, indicates pendant. (although pendant is spelled wrong).

1. On page AD115, it shows that there is to be a trench cut in the existing floor slab as required to place the new block wall and foundation. How thick is this floor slab to be cut and broken out?

CLH was not able to secure existing drawings of the slab condition in this area. Cross section was drawn to presume a 6” thick existing slab. Contractor will need to field verify thickness by means of core drilling of existing slab in this area to confirm slab thickness.

1. On page ED700, according to note 1 of the plan it states that the IT equipment mounted on the floor and wall are to remain in place. Yes, no exceptions to this requirement. This equipment, especially the wall mounted unit, will make the removal of the window and infill of the window area very difficult. Is it possible to remove this equipment for the time during construction on the removal and infill of the window area, or do these items need to stay in place throughout? Equipment needs to continually remain operational during construction for security requirements. Wall mounted equipment should not be a problem, floor mounted equipment will hinder installation of the window in-fill, but should not be a problem. Equipment will require continuous protection from weather and construction. Additionally, the area shall be secured during working and non-working hours.

1. Refer to Appendix A, paragraph A 3. Infectious Control Plan:

4. Please provide the “Infectious Control Risk Assessment…” noted to be provided to the contractor. An assessment for each Building would be appreciated.

The Infection Control Risk Assessment and Pre-Construction Risk Assessment are typically completed after award and prior to construction. They are meant to determine if the work will have any effect on patients and what measures are needed to mitigate potential hazards.

1. Refer to Specification Division 28.

5. Please provide the specifications and contact information for the existing VA PAC & IDS systems that this project must integrate with.

Randy Borchers Mid America Security Inc.

12305 Cary Circle Suite 7 Omaha, NE 68128 Phone 402-639-9387 Email: RJBorchers1@msn.com

5. Please provided the names/contact information for all VA approved PAC & IDS systems installers. VA does not have a list of approved installers.

1. Refer to Drawing Sheet A-801, Detail 9F calls for 8x6x12 Structural Glazed Tile with a Base Unit Coved on both sides.

6. Please confirm the color match to be “near/close” as possible.

Specifications Section 09 06 00 Schedule for Finishes indicates “Match Existing” for Ceramic Glazed Clay Tile. However, for this installation, a color match to be “near/close” as possible would be acceptable to this office provided it is acceptable to the VA. Further, Section 04 20 00, paragraph 1.4 D Submittal Samples are required to be submitted for Brick and Glazed Structural Facing Tile “showing a full color range and texture” of materials. Although under samples item 2 refer to “Ceramic Glazed Tile” as opposed to Glazed Structural Facing Tile.

6. This block will most likely be special order and the cove base might not be available. Please confirm CMU substitutions may be considered if lead time should effect the project schedule.

The cove base unit could be substituted with a typical square cut base unit if this cove base is only available by special order, provided this is acceptable to the VA. If the VA is agreeable to consider CMU as a substitution for Structural Glazed Tile, it would be acceptable to this office, but would not look as appropriate and the VA should expect a credit. Additionally, if painting is desired for this CMU in the garage it would require a block sealer paint.

6. In the project tax exempt?

The successful Prime Contractor will be given a Nebraska Tax Exempt Certificate for the Contract.
