About this file
This document is a product specification sheet for the PACScube Express Catalyst II 6000N, a DICOM-compatible CD burning system designed for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
The system is required to transmit patient medical imaging data and reports between VA facilities and external healthcare providers. Key functional requirements include DICOM compatibility, CD encryption and decryption capabilities, and seamless integration with existing VA PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) systems. The PACScube Express 6000 captures DICOM images and results, records them onto discs with embedded lite DICOM viewing software for multi-computer access, and labels discs with patient demographics, facility logos, and audit trail identifiers. The system enables enterprise-wide requests from any computer with simultaneous multi-job processing capability. The primary purpose is to prevent unnecessary medical procedures and radiation exposure by allowing patient imaging and reports to accompany transfers to external facilities for specialized care unavailable within the VA. The applicable model is the PACScube Express Catalyst II 6000N, with physical specifications including a transporter unit weighing 81 lbs maximum (25"x16"x23"), a 3-lb workstation mounted behind monitor (8"x7"x2"), and a 9-lb monitor (14"x14"x3"). The document notes that no compatibility substitutions are permitted with existing VA systems.

The PacsCube Express Catalyst II 6000N
1) Essential/significant physical, functional, or performance characteristics.
a) Requirements – PACScube, CD Burner, must be DICOM compatible, be able to encrypt and decrypt CDs, and be compatible with existing VA PACS systems
b) Compatibility – No
c) Dimensions/Weight – Software.
d) Industry Standard – For healthcare facilities that receive and transfer patients outside their own facility, a CD burner that contains patient information that can be encrypted and decrypted is necessary.
e) Purpose – A patient is transferred outside the VA for care that they cannot get within the
VA. This is due to many reasons: logistical, procedures that the VA does not have the ability to perform, or equipment issues.
f) The purpose of PACScube is to send and receive patient information to and from facilities outside the VA. For example, if a patient is a resident at the VA who had a recent CT and is transferred to another facility for a procedure that is not done here, the
CT images and report is sent along with the patient, so the patient does not have to have another CT, thereby preventing unnecessary exposure to radiation., Complete generic identification – PACScube express 6000 takes DICOM images and results and seamlessly records them onto discs. It embeds a lite DICOM viewing tool so images and reports can be viewed from any computer. Discs are uniquely labeled with patient and study demographics, facility logo and audit trail identifier. Requests can be submitted from any computer across the enterprise and multiple jobs can be processed simultaneously.
