About this file

This is a Salient Characteristics document specifying equipment and technical requirements for Vocera V5000 communication devices and supported software for the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System (NAVAHCS).

The procurement requires 450 communication badges with integrated software that must meet specific functional and physical standards. Badges must be lightweight (not exceeding 4 ounces), hands-free, antimicrobial, and capable of push-to-talk communication, dedicated panic button activation for Code Blue and Rapid Response calls, and voice messaging functionality. Battery performance must support minimum 35-hour operational life, while included batteries must provide minimum 4 hours talk time and 40 hours standby time. The badges require staff-centered profile management that restricts device sharing, universal clothing clips adjustable to within 6 inches of the chin for optimal speech recognition, and FIPS compliance for VA wireless network operation. Equipment must integrate with existing NAVAHCS systems and network infrastructure. The procurement also includes 8-bay chargers capable of simultaneously charging eight batteries within 6 hours or less, and adjustable clips for device attachment. Warranty requirements include minimum 1-year standard coverage from shipment date and optional 2-year extended warranties for both badges and chargers covering normal wear damage and equipment replacement or repair. Vendors must provide documentation demonstrating approved Original Equipment Manufacturer or authorized distributor status, VA Directive 6550 approval for Vocera supplies, VA Directive 6500 compliance, and validated hardware-based encryption capability for the VA wireless network, along with evidence of compatibility with currently deployed NAVAHCS equipment and services.
