Question 80
Q: The WestComm Nurse Call System being called out in this solicitation: The current WestComm nurse call system lacks FDA 510k certification, a standard adhered to by nearly all other VA Medical centers, especially for Nurse Call Code Blue systems. Considering the critical role of the nurse call system in facilitating communication during CODE Blue events, aligning with these standards is crucial. Additionally, as the WestComm system is not deployed facility-wide, this presents an opportune moment to consider standardizing on a new platform. Given these considerations, is the VA open to alternatives, such as OR Equal, to replace WestComm?
There is a system known as Jeron Provider 790 Enterprise nurse call that VAs across the country are adopting to replace their old Rauland Responder 5, Ascom and other old nurse call systems. Over 40 VAs now use Jeron Provider 790 nurse call because it is the latest/greatest, more durable, easier to use, and less expensive system. The attached executive summary on the Jeron Provider 790 Enterprise nurse call highlights how Jeron 790 is a Clone of Rauland with additional benefits. Also, the Jeron is readily available to ship.
Because the Jeron Provider 790 Enterprise nurse call is much newer it will give the facility 10+ years of use. It truly is the latest and greatest solution at much more cost-effective price point. Being deployed in over 40 VA facilities, end users have referred to Jeron as a cheaper, easier to maintain, and more durable than what was previously installed.
By the VA accepting Or Equals, it would avoid installing an older system that will have to be replaced in the next 12-24 months. By allowing Or Equal, the VA is future-proofing the Phoenix VAMC and working towards the best/most cost-effective future for our Veteran patients.
