RFI responses for Replace Fire Sprinklers, Project 612-20-015
Proposal RFI #1 – Some of the plan pages are illegible, particularly the printing in yellow. Does the VA have plans that are higher resolution or can be made readable?
See attached pdf's for Bldg 20 CLC plumbing as-builts in black and white.
Proposal RFI #1 – The solicitation calls for a Divisional Cost Breakdown Sheet, a Breakdown Sheet was not noted in the documents, is the contractor to provide this?
Contractor will provide cost breakdown by Division per specification. Form attached.
Proposal RFI #2 - General requirements 1.6K, Calls for a Class IV ICRA near patients or if creating dust.
Most of the work within the interior of the CLC will be replacing sprinkler heads, in corridors and vacated patient rooms. This activity will not create dust, will a Class I ICRA be acceptable in these instances?
No,Replacing sprinkler heads may still create dust in corridors and vacated patient rooms. VA recommends using HEPAcart while replacing these sprinklers specially in the corridor, patient room or where infection control is a concern. See attached HEPAcart document information
HC74U18.
Proposal RFI #3 - General Requirement 1.9B, Calls for an Independent Safety Professional or
Construction Safety Health Technician. Please confirm that this will be a requirement for this project.
Yes it is, However the project superintendent can be the Safety professional.
Proposal RFI #4 - General Requirement 1.27, Calls for the contractor to provide storage space for the
Department of Veterans Affairs. Please clarify and confirm if this is a requirement for this project.
No storage space is required for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Contractor storage space will be available at the VA gravel lot end going towards La Costa Restaurant or
Burger King. Return site to original condition after project completion.
Proposal RFI #5- General Requirement 1.30, Calls to document the project with the services of a Professional
Photographer and to index the photos on AutoCad plans that can then be interactive on an Internet interface. Please confirm that this will be a requirement for this project.
No need for Professional photographer but project needs photos for project documentation, especially for areas that are difficult to access.
Proposal RFI#6- Will the VA require structural engineering and a Compliance Letter from a structural engineer? If the VA will require structural engineering, does the VA have structural "as built" plans?
No need for structural engineer compliance letter but contractor shall provide seismic bracing where is needed.
Proposal RFI #7 - Can the VA provide a diagram of the plastic pipe locations and or "as built" drawings showing plastic pipe locations?
No, Plastic piping’s are in all wing areas (hallyways, patient rooms, etc) after the double door from the main hall. All the wing areas ( Napa, Tahoe and Shasta) have the patient rooms, etc.
Proposal RFI #8 - During pipe replacement, sections of the fire sprinkler system could be out of service for 3-4 weeks at a time. Will the VA provide the "Fire Watch" during the system shut down times?
VA will conduct Fire Watch while the fire sprinkler system is down during construction.
Proposal RFI #9 - We plan to install new quick response fire sprinkler heads that will meet NFPA 13.
Please confirm this will be an acceptable installation.
Contractor will submit material submittal per project specification.
