Install RMR Eyewash Stations Project – 554-21-101 Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Affairs Medical Center (RMRVAMC)
1.0 - OBJECTIVE
The Department of Veteran’s Affairs has a requirement to install eyewash-stations at the Rocky Mountain Regional Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center (RMRVAMC), located at 1700 N. Wheeling St., Aurora CO 80045. The objective of the project is to remove specified eyewash stations and install replacement/additional units, mixing valves, faucets and other associated plumbing parts.
All contractor-provided system components shall be provided to optimize performance and require low-maintenance. The affected buildings are occupied and in use. The work may require the removal and reinstallation of mechanical and electrical equipment which shall be coordinated with the Facilities Management Services (FMS). Equipment down-times shall be kept to a minimum and be scheduled with applicable departments and the project COR in writing two (2) weeks in advance for equipment downtime.
2.0 – STATEMENT OF WORK
Tasks the contractor shall complete include but are not limited to:
Plumbing 1.) All work shall be performed during the days and times approved by the COR pending user approval. Any deviations or conflicts in schedule must be rescheduled and approved in writing by COR. Scheduling guidelines are listed in section 16.00 – Hours of Work.
2.) All work shall be turned over continuously as completed. Work shall be performed in such a manner to keep the areas being worked to a minimum while maximizing productivity and turnover of areas being worked on. No areas should remain down.
3.) Contractor shall field verify existing conditions prior to performing any work.
4.) Install new fixtures in locations specified; using approved fixtures and mixing-valves specified below, or equivalent. All locations shall be reviewed and approved by VA-Safety dept. and the COR.
a. EW/DH = Eyewash with Drench Hose with Thermostatic Mixing Valve (TMV) = Speakman Model SEF-9000-TW-CK.
b. FM = Faucet Mounted Eyewash with TMV = Speakman Model SEF-1000-CA-TW
c. SH = Emergency Shower and TMV = Speakman Model SE-227 and Speakman Model SEF-362
d. COM = Combination Shower and Eyewash = Speakman Model SE-697
e. FMR = Remove existing faucet mounted eyewash = Varies. Replace with existing manufacturer type or equivalent less eyewash function.
5.) All locations shall be supplied with tempered water via ASSE 1071 certified TMVs. Building B has an existing tempered water distribution system so fixtures in BS-111 and BS-115 shall not require a separate TMV at the new fixture.
6.) Remove faucet mounted eyewash in locations specified. Where faucet mounted eyewashes are not replaced with another type of faucet mounted eyewash, replace faucet with standard faucet to match existing type less eyewash function.
7.) All new fixtures and fixture moves shall be caulked smooth, impervious, free from cracks and crevices, and non-shedding particulate shedding.
8.) Patch & paint drywall around new fixtures. Wall finishes must match existing in each instance.
9.) Eyewash signage shall be approved by the COR and installed in each location.
10.) Drench hose shall be restricted to not reach below the flood level rim of the sink or include an integral check valve.
11.) There are five locations where new fixtures shall be installed where no fixture currently exists. In these locations (BS-111, BS-115. DS-102, KS-100, and BP-102), insulated and surface mounted domestic water supply lines shall be tied-in to the nearest connection points. See Plumbing Shop Drawings of interstitial spaces.
a. In BS-111 a combination safety shower and eyewash shall be installed in the SE corner of the room. Tempered water shall be supplied from the existing tempered water system in Building B. Tie-in at the 1-1/2” main line in the service level interstitial and run a single insulated 1-1/4” supply line to the shower with isolation valve. Total length of tempered supply line including elevation changes is less than 50’ and will require a single penetration through the firewall between the interstitial and BS-111. Fire stop caulking shall be required at wall penetration.
b. In BS-115 a drench/eyewash hose shall be installed on column D4. Tempered water shall be supplied from the existing tempered water system in Building B. Tie-in downstream of the 1-1/4” emergency shower isolation valve directly North of the installation. Run a single insulated 1/2” supply line to the drench hose. Total length of tempered supply line including elevation changes is less than 40’ and will require a single penetration through the floor between the interstitial and BS-111. Fire stop caulking shall be required at floor penetration.
c. In DS-102 a drench/eyewash hose shall be installed near the door on West wall. DCW is available near installation location. DHW shall be supplied from the main line in the interstitial. Tie-in with new isolation valve near where the existing 1-1/2” DCW tie-in. Run new insulated ½” DHW parallel to the existing 1-1/2” DCW supply. Total length of new DHW supply line including elevation changes is less than 30’ and will require a single penetration through the floor between the interstitial and DS-111. Fire stop caulking shall be required at floor penetration.
d. In KS-100 install an emergency shower in the alcove next to the existing eyewash sink. Tie-in to 1” DHW and DCW to supply TMV for shower downstream of existing isolation valve in adjacent corridor. Total length of each new 1” DHW and DCW supply line including elevation changes is less than 20’ and will require two penetrations through the fire wall between the corridor and KS-100. Fire stop caulking shall be required at floor penetration. Line walls of alcove below shower head height with FRP to protect walls from water damage.
e. In BP-102 install a drench/eyewash with TMV. Tie-in to DCW and DHW in adjacent corridor. Total length of each new 3/4” DHW and DCW supply lines. DHW run is less than 50’ including elevation change. DCW is less than 20’ including elevation changes. Install will require two penetrations through the fire wall between the corridor and KS-100. Fire stop caulking shall be required at wall penetrations.
Electrical 1.) At room D2-213 (SE area of level 2) of Building D/ Diagnostic & Treatment, a controlled-temperature room exists with an eyewash-shower adjacent to it. The NEMA-1 disconnect that powers this room resides within 2’ of the shower (see included photos).
· Provide temporary power supply with SO cord to control panel for Temperature Controlled Room D2-213 from J-box in ceiling above disconnect.
· Relocate existing disconnect to the opposite side (east) side of the door to temperature-controlled room.
· Any unused opening left in the disconnect or control panel from reworking conduit entries shall be plugged with a ¾”, exterior-grade KO-closure.
· Reroute critical (purple) conduit accordingly on the exterior, northern wall of controlled-temperature room. ICRA Class 3 protocols in this location.
2.) At room CS-231 (12-SV-K4-01, NW corner of PVN loading area) Hazardous Materials Storage/ Spill Containment & Flammable Storage, there are existing electrical components adjacent to an eyewash station. They consist of thermostats controlling heat-trace equipment.
· Relocate electrical assemblies further west down the same wall to provide an area free from electrical hazards in the vicinity of the eyewash (see included photos).
