1.0 – OBJECTIVE:
The Department of Veteran’s Affairs has a requirement to install 3 new CenturyLink circuits to Building 38 at the Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center (DVAMC), located at 1055 Clermont St., Denver CO 80220. Additionally, an underground fiberoptic-run between the same building and Building 8 shall be installed. As part of a VA-project to render Building 38 a ‘standalone’ structure (free from any utility connections to the main, vacant hospital), a new demarcation-room shall be established in existing IT Closet 112.
This project shall be completed in three phases. The “contractor portion of work” details two separate underground conduit runs. One to the East, across VA-property to the West edge of Clermont St. (to intercept conduit installed by Centurylink) and a second conduit-run extends West from Bldg. 38 to Bldg. 8. The “CenturyLink portion” continues the raceway to existing ISP vault further south on Clermont St. Details regarding CenturyLink scope for informational purposes only and shall not be considered in contractor’s proposal.
2.0 – STATEMENT OF WORK
· Contractor portion of work:
The following work shall be completed as specified or executed using alternate VA-approved method.
Conduit-run # 1
· Coordinate utility-locates and potholing as needed along the route directional boring will take place across VA-property.
· Excavate a 4x4x4’ pit at the West side of Clermont St. between sidewalk and parking lot asphalt, directly to the East of Bldg. 38’ South end.
· Internet Service Provider (ISP) shall utilize the excavation-point at Clermont St. for their directional-boring efforts to existing ISP vault further south. Note- ISP will not perform until contractor’s work is complete.
· Excavate a second pit at Bldg. 38’ new demarcation-point and directional bore in a West-Northwest direction at 24” depth. The new 4” underground raceway will pass over sewer, water and gas-lines. These utilities reside approximately 12’ to the west of the sidewalk along Clermont St.
· The length of the underground conduit installation to Clermont St. is approximately 175’ from the South exterior wall of Room 113.
· At the new demarcation point, exterior conduit shall extend vertically to a point equal to that of Comcast junction box. Using a weatherproof, steel junction box (NEMA 1, Type II), the raceway will extend horizontally and protrude in to room 113.
· On the interior of Bldg. 38, contractor shall provide, route and pull new copper communication cabling to Demarcation Room 112. VA’ Bio-Med personnel to perform terminations to VA-IT equipment.
· Upon completion of underground and interior work, a request to terminate cables at the demarcation-point shall be submitted to CenturyLink.
· Backfilling, compaction and restoration of existing landscaping, asphalt and concrete to be completed by contractor and shall comply with VA-Specifications.
· Above and underground installation shall comply with CenturyLink’s “National Implementation Construction Guidelines”.
Conduit-run # 2
· Coordinate utility-locates and potholing as needed along the route directional boring will take place across VA-property.
· Excavate a 4x4x4’ pit at the West side of Bldg. 38 at the bottom of handicap-ramp, in corner, adjacent to building.
· Excavate a second pit at the SE corner of Bldg. 8’ and deploy directional-boring at 24” depth, in a Southeast direction with 4” SCH 40 conduit for 1 (one) single-mode fiber optic cable. The new underground raceway will pass over existing VA utility lines.
· The distance between Bldg. 8 & 38 is approximately 300’.
· At each building exterior, SCH 80 PVC conduit shall extend vertically to a specified point (see below). Using a weatherproof, steel junction box (NEMA 1, Type II), the raceways will extend horizontally and protrude in to each structure.
· On the interior of Bldg. 38, contractor shall install conduit system above ceiling and pull fiber optic cable to Demarcation Room 112. VA’ Bio-Med personnel to perform terminations to VA-IT equipment.
· At Bldg. 8, conduit shall extend vertically to 2nd floor to access IT-room. VA’ Bio-Med personnel to perform terminations to VA-IT equipment.
· Backfilling, compaction and restoration of existing landscaping, asphalt and concrete to be completed by contractor and shall comply with VA-Specifications.
· CenturyLink portion of work (for information purposes only):
· An underground 4” conduit-run (SCH 40 PVC) shall extend from an existing CenturyLink vault under Clermont St., in front of the West Ambulance Entrance of Rose Medical Center to new demarcation point at Bldg. 38 (to be established at the South end of the building at its connection point to Bldg. 1).
· ISP to install a new raceway and copper communication cabling from aforementioned vault under Clermont St. to connect with previously-installed, contractor-provided conduit extending from Bldg. 38, ending at the property line (a quartzite-box will be installed here).
· ISP will directional-bore under Clermont St. 305’ to establish 4” conduit between 4x4 pit on the West side of Clermont and existing CenturyLink vault. This work will commence upon the completion of “Contractor scope of work”.
