Solicitation – 36C25618B0678

RFIs - Follow-on Clarification

Project No. 564-610

RFIs Continued:

RFI 39) 08 71 00: Will door hardware substitutions be accepted?

Response: Doors shall comply with paragraphs 08 71 00 and 08 11 13 of specifications.

Follow-Up) Please provide approved manufactures/suppliers for all anti-ligature cabinet pulls and locks listed under 2.4 Accessories items: Cabinet Hardware &

Cabinet locks.

Response: The contractor is responsible for furnishing manufactures/suppliers according to the specifications section 06 20 00 and performance requirements.

RFI 40) 10 14 00: Please provide the signage section location on the plans per specs.

Response: See Appendix 7 – VA Fayetteville Interior Sign Manual – Digital Standards

Follow-Up) How are contractors to specifically retrieve appendix 7 and does it provide the sign locations, can we provide web link here?

Response: Appendix 7 is located in the back of the specifications provided in the solicitation. Required sign locations are specified in the “Signage

Design Manual” located on the TIL (https://www.cfm.va.gov/til/catalog.asp). There currently is not a signage plan as part of the documents.

RFI 50) Please provide/clarify location of corner guards and bumper guards as specified in the specs?

Response: Corner guards are omitted from the project due to anti-ligature requirements. Bumper guard locations are indicated as a dashed line parallel to walls on the material finish plan F4 on sheet AE-602. Bumper guard locations are also indicated on Interior Elevation Sheet AE-411 and noted as wall mounted anti-ligature handrails.

RFI 51) Please provides specs for Safety Padding in room 137A-49 Iso/Seclusion?

Response: Basis of Design: Gold Metal Safety Padding

RFI 52) Section 1.5.B: Can the FM Global & UL program requirement be waived?

Response: No https://www.cfm.va.gov/til/catalog.asp https://goldmedalsafetypadding.com/

Amendment 0006

RFI 53) Should wood blocking and 5/8” moisture resistant green board/cement board at all patient toilet/shower rooms be replaced with 5/8” marine grade plywood?

Response:Yes, replace all noted wood blocking and 5/8” moisture resistant green board/cement board in all patient toilets and showers with 3/4” marine grade plywood with PS 1-09, APA – The Engineered Wood Association

Certifications faced with ¼” thick HardiBacker Cement Board or equal.

RFI 54) Reference grab bars GB3, GB6, and GB7 listed on G1-100. These are listed as 3-wall grab bars for the 3 walls in shower locations. Cape Cod does not manufacture a 3 wall grab bar at all, but instead suggests a 2-wall and a single grab bar.

Response: Use Cape Cod Two Wall Grab Bar, CCSA130G and Grab Bar, CCSA130A or equal where 3 wall grab bars are specified in shower locations.

RFI 55) In order to provide a precast concrete design that meets VA Physical Security standards, we are requesting Physical Security Design Standards Data Definitions. The specifications state the following:

1.4 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

A. Structural Performance: Furnish units and connections capable of withstanding: the design criteria specified on the construction documents, self-weights and weights of materials supported or attached, for the conditions indicated.

1. Design Standards: Comply with ACI 318/ACI 318M and the design recommendations of

PCI MNL 120 and PCI MNL 122 applicable to types of units indicated.

2. Limit deflection of precast members as follows: Vertical live load – Span / 360. Wind load – Height / 400.

4. Physical Security Life Safety Protected Facilities: a. Precast concrete panels to meet or exceed the design and construction standards as furnished in the Physical Security Design

Manual for VA Facilities: Life Safety Protected. 1) Blast Resistance: Design level threat

(W1) located at the standoff distance, but not greater than GP1.

The Physical Security Design Manual on page 6-1, for level vehicle threat (W1) and standoff distance (GP1) states:

The magnitude of GP1, GP2, W1, and W2 are defined in the Physical Security Design

Standards Data Definitions that shall be stored separate from this document.

Response: The building is designed to be Mission Critical and this is accomplished via the stand-off distances required in the Physical Security Manual for Mission Critical Facilities.

Blast-Proof walls are not provided or required if the stand-off distances are met.
