About this file

This document is a Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC) laboratory test results report from HGS Analytical for the Robert J Dole VA Medical Center, dated December 23, 2024. The report details water sample testing performed on December 10, 2024, with samples collected from multiple rooms across Buildings 1 and 19, specifically from floors, rooms, and water lines such as 102-1, 106N-1, 106S-1, 117-19, 118-19, 119-19, and 120-19.

The test results predominantly show bacterial counts below 10 CFU/mL, which meets the Infection Control Standards for VA Clinics' lowest threshold requiring no additional action. However, one notable exception is sample 7C from Room 120-19 in Building 19, which registered 30,000 CFU/mL - significantly exceeding the 500 CFU/mL threshold that requires taking the line out of service, shocking all lines, and retesting to determine treatment efficacy. The testing was conducted using Standard Methods 9215C (spread plate method) and followed SOP-034 for characterizing water samples by heterotrophic plate count. The laboratory is ELAP certified and compliant with New York State Department of Health and Florida Administrative Code standards for drinking and non-potable water microbiology testing.

Subject: Robert J Dole VA Medical Center, Q1 FY2025 Heterotrophic Plate Count Results

Dear Mr. Miller, The HGS Analytical Laboratory performed heterotrophic plate count analysis on samples taken from the Robert J Dole VA Medical Center on December 10, 2024, and delivered to the laboratory on December 12, 2024.

The Infection Control Standards for VA Clinics indicate these actions at the following bacterial thresholds:

1. Detection greater than 500 CFU/mL: Take the line out of service, shock all the lines, and retest to determine treatment efficacy.

2. Detection greater than 200 CFU/mL but less than 500 CFU/mL: Lines may remain in service, but it is recommended that they be shocked again.

3. Detection less than 200 CFU/mL: No additional action -- Continue current disinfection protocols.
