About this file

This document is a Legionella water testing report for the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, dated December 10, 2024. The report details water sample testing results from various sinks and an ice machine across two floors of Building 1, conducted in compliance with VHA Directive 1061 for preventing healthcare-associated Legionella disease. Of the 20 water samples collected, four tested positive for Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 at concentrations ranging from 0.4 to 1.6 CFU/mL, specifically in cold water sink samples from rooms 266-1, 264-1, and 327-1.

The testing was performed by HGS Analytical Laboratory, following ISO 11731-2017 and CDC environmental sampling procedures, with a minimum detection limit of 0.4 CFU/mL. The report includes a detailed flow chart for interpreting routine quarterly environmental water testing, which provides guidance on required actions based on Legionella detection. The laboratory is ELAP certified and complies with New York State Department of Health and Florida Administrative Code standards for drinking and non-potable water microbiology testing.
