About this file

This document is a set of questions and answers related to Solicitation Number 36C25525Q0049, a federal contract opportunity for water purification testing and maintenance services for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Integrated Service Network 15.

The VA requires a contractor to provide, install, monitor, maintain, and repair/replace a critical water system capable of producing water that meets AAMI ST108 standards for use in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) departments at the Topeka and Leavenworth, Kansas VA facilities. The incoming water at the two sites is different, and a sand filter may be required at the Topeka site to extend the life of the charcoal and resin filters. The contractor will provide monthly written reports demonstrating compliance with AAMI ST108 standards to the Contracting Officer's Representative at each campus. The VA is open to alternative reverse osmosis (RO) system proposals from vendors other than the incumbent, AmeriWater.

36C25525Q0049 Q&A

QUESTION: Do the AmeriWater RO Water Purification Systems already exist? Since it has the VA ID# and serial # I am assuming this equipment is already installed.

RESPONSE: We have a RO unit now but we need a complete new system, both sites.

QUESTION: If we are providing that hardware, do you have a contact at AmeriWater so I do not have to start from scratch?

RESPONSE: We are not providing the hardware.

QUESTION: Would you be open to an alternative RO system? We manufacture RO system right here in Kansas City. If so, I can quote our system that would comply with the project.

RESPONSE: yes

QUESTION: D.1. Statement of work #2 said “It may be advisable to install a sand type filter in the system at the Topeka site.” Since this is a bid with strict specifications, I don’t want to add a system and then be overpriced. Should I add a sand system or not?

RESPONSE: The incoming water is very different in Topeka than in Leavenworth. The system we have now is burning through the charcoal and resin filters at a much higher rate in Topeka than Leavenworth. The sand filter may help to reduce that. I just want everyone to know that there is a big difference in the incoming water between the sites.
