C. SHORT CIRCUIT STUDY

C.1. Introduction

LAD team collected the field data on primary service cables, switchgear, transformers, switchboards, panelboards, MCCs and 600 Volts feeders. Using the SKM Power Tools, LAD team developed the model to calculate the short circuit currents at various nodes in the system.

The power distribution system consists of medium voltage service entrance, service switchgear, pad mount transformers and unit substations, and low voltage distribution system inside the buildings.

The LAD team developed one line diagrams for the medium voltage power distribution system. The results of the study are included in Section A of this report.

C.2. Sources of Fault Current

Westar Energy primary service is 12.47 kV.

Three Phase Fault: P09105 (North): 6,388 Amps P09104 (South): 6,388 Amps

C.3. Calculation Scenarios

Normal operation of primary service and VAMC 3-phase loads.

Operation of emergency service and emergency 3-phase loads.

C.4. SKM Power Tools Input Data reports

Fault Analysis Input Reports are included in Appendix 2.

C.5. Short Circuit Calculation Results

The short circuit analysis calculates the available fault current at all points in the distribution system from the service entrance to the distribution panels. The results are compared to the short circuit ratings of the distribution equipment.

Refer to Tab G for analysis and recommendations and Appendix 3 for Short Circuit Analysis Reports.

Due to buildings 60 and 61 having only single phase panels, no SKM calculations could be obtained. Due to the condition and age of the panels in building 273, not all the information could be obtained and therefore no SKM calculations could be

C.6. Short Circuit Tables

See the short circuit tables in this tab that show information determined by the SKM short circuit study for 3-phase loads.
