NOTES
1. Replace existing Raychem GutterMelt cable with the same product.
2. Use cable cover bracket in all gutters which will help the cable stay in place. Also it will help the cable be more efficient in spreading the heat.
3. Changing voltage from 120 VAC to 208 VAC. On a building this size 208 VAC is a much more efficient.
4. Pulling all new wires from the panels to the power connection points.
5. Adding controls (1) APS-4C controller and (2) SC-40C satellite contactors. The current system had no controls and the cable was on when we were examining it in August.
6. Adding new power connection kits at 14 different locations.
7. Installing Snow Owl aerial sensors at 2 different locations.
8. Extend cable through downspouts 5 ft. into conditioned space.

Nickel-plated copper conductors
Self-regulating conductive core
Modified polyolefin inner jacket
Tinned-copper braid
Fluoropolymer (-XT) or modified polyolefin (-X) outer jacket
Heating cable construction
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
nVent RAYCHEM GM-2X and GM-2XT heating cables provide roof and gutter snow melting and de-icing for following applications:
• Roofs comprising standard roofing materials, including slate, shingle, bitumen, tar, wood, metal, and plastic.
• Gutters of standard materials, including metal, plastic, and wood.
• Drainpipes of standard materials, including metal and plastic.
The heating element of a GM-2X(T) consists of a continuous core conductive polymer extruded between two copper conductors. As current flows through the core, the heating cable regulates its heat output in accordance with ambient conditions.
The self-regulating feature eliminates hot spots and results in better temperature control to protect roof and gutter materials.
The heating cable is available with a fluoropolymer outer jacket (-XT) which provides maximum abrasion, chemical, and mechanical resistance; or a polyolefin outer jacket (-X) that is more economical for less demanding applications.
ADVANTAGES
Low installed cost
The GM-2X (T) heating cable’s parallel circuitry allows it to be cut to the exact length. Such characteristics simplify and streamline the design of a roof and gutter snow melting system.
Installation is quick and simple. Features that make the snow melting system easy to install in new build projects, or as part of ongoing during building renovation.

High Performance Adhesive/Sealant
Joint Preparation Joint surfaces should be clean, dry and free from all contamination including: dirt, oils, grease, tar, wax, rust and any other substance that may inhibit the sealant’s performance.
Joint Design Install all joint applications per ASTM and SWRI recommendations and guidelines. Joints shall be designed with a depth to width ratio of 1:2 (joint depth one-half the width). Control the depth of the sealant by using a polyethylene backer rod that is 25% larger than the joint opening at standard temperature. To prevent three-point adhesion use a backer rod or bond breaker tape to ensure proper joint movement and a long lasting weatherproof seal. Where the joint configuration will not permit a backer rod, CHEM LINK recommends that an alternative bond breaker be used.

CHEM LINK recommends an appropriate substrate primer to be used on high moving joints or dissimilar substrates which require increased adhesion properties.
Application Guidelines:
Glass Prior to application remove any residual contamination by mechanical abrasion, sand blasting or power washing. Remove all release agents and old caulk. Dry all visible and standing water prior to applying DuraSil.
Metal Prepare all metal to ensure maximum adhesion. Remove all rust, scale and residue by wire brushing to a bright metal sheen. Remove films, loose or inappropriate coatings and oils with an appropriate solvent such as alcohol.*
*CHEM LINK recommends that coated substrates be tested for adhesion prior to starting a project. Please contact Technical Services for specific application guidelines and recommendations.
Wood Wood should be clean, sound and dry prior to sealant application. Allow treated wood to weather for six months prior to application. Remove all coatings and paint (or test for compatibility) to ensure proper bonding. Do not use on fire retardant lumber.
Priming In most instances DuraSil will not require a primer.
However, certain applications or substrates may require a primer to ensure a long lasting bond and weatherproof seal. It is the applicator’s responsibility to determine the need for a primer. CHEM LINK recommends a primer be used for any application where prolonged immersion is anticipated.
Clean-Up Wet sealant can be removed using a solvent such as alcohol. Cured DuraSil can be removed by abrading or scraping the substrate.
Storage Store original, unopened containers in a cool, dry area.
Protect unopened containers from water, heat and direct sunlight. Elevated temperatures will reduce shelf life.
DuraSil will not freeze.
Shelf Life Twelve months from date of manufacture when stored at 70°F / 21°C with 50% relative humidity. High temperature and high relative humidity may significantly reduce shelf life.
Pails have a shelf life of six months.
Application Instructions Remove all dirt, oil, loose paint, frost and other contamination from all working surfaces with alcohol DO NOT USE petroleum solvents such as mineral spirits or xylene. Maintain DuraSil at room temperature before applying to ensure easy gunning and tooling. Test and evaluate to ensure adequate adhesion. Carefully gun the sealant with a smooth, continuous bead. If tooling is needed, do so within fifteen minutes of application.
Caution Avoid prolonged contact with skin. Uncured adhesive irritates eyes. In case of contact with eyes immediately flush with water. Call a physician. Please refer to the SDS for first aid information.
See www.chemlink.com for most current SDS .
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
Limitations

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
The ETI® APS–4C snow melting and gutter de-icing controller with ground-fault protection, when used with one or more compatible sensors, automatically controls surface snow melting and roof and gutter de-icing heating cables for minimum energy costs. Applications include pavement, sidewalk, loading dock, roof, gutter, and down spout snow/ ice melting in commercial and industrial environments.
The adjustable hold-on timer continues heater operation for up to 10 hours after snow stops to ensure complete melting.
The optional RCU–4 Remote Control Unit can be located where system operation can be conveniently observed. It duplicates many of the APS–4C front panel functions.
The APS–4C provides advanced patented and patent pending ground-fault equipment protection (GFEP) as required by the national electrical codes. The GFEP automatically tests itself every time the contactors operate and once every 24 hours. The trip current can be set at 60 or 120 mA via a DIP an internal switch or retained at the 30 mA default value. As an aid to troubleshooting heating cable ground faults, the APS–4C provides an output that can indicate the ground current on a service person’s portable DVM.
The calibrated 40°F to 90°F (4°C to 32°C) high limit thermostat prevents excessive temperatures when using constant wattage and MI heating cables. It also permits safe testing at outdoor temperatures too high for continuous heater operation. The temperature sensor is included.
The APS–4C provides a complete interface for use in environments supervised by an energy management computer (EMC). This feature can also be used for general purpose remote control and annunciation.
All sensor and communications wiring is NEC Class 2. This simplifies installation while enhancing fire and shock safety.
Multiple sensors provide superior performance by better matching the controller to site performance requirements.
The APS–4C can interface up to six sensors.
The APS–4C is an exceptionally capable surface snow melting and roof and gutter de-icing controller. For complete information describing its application, installation and features, please contact your nVent representative or visit our web site at nVent.com.

Modular Snow/Ice Heater Control System
MODEL SC™–40C SATELLITE CONTACTOR
DESCRIPTION
The SC–40C Satellite Contactor answers the need for cost effective modular snow melting heater control.
One or more SC–40Cs, when used with an APS–4C Control Panel acting as the master control, allow for modular snow melting system design. There is no limit to the number of SC–40Cs that can be interfaced in a single system. This approach reduces front end design, hardware and installation costs while providing a number of useful features that would be otherwise too expensive and complex to implement.
The SC–40C provides the same advanced patented and patent pending Ground Fault Equipment Protection (GFEP) as required by the USA and Canadian National Electric codes that is found on the APS–4C. Upon sensing

heaters a ground fault condition, an SC–40C inhibits operation of its contactor until manually reset. Circuits without a ground fault continue to operate normally thus partitioning defective heaters.
The adjustable hold‑on timer can initiate heater operation on each SC–40C for up to 10 hours to ensure complete melting and to compensate for differences between zones. The optional RCU–4 Remote Control Unit can be located where system operation can be conveniently observed. It duplicates many of the controls and indicators on the SC–40C front panel.
Each SC–40C provides a complete energy management computer (EMC) interface. This feature provides remote access for advanced applications requiring remote or zone control along with remote annunciation.
Each SC–40C maintains communications to and from the APS–4C using a 3‑wire cable. Thus, the APS–4C alarms ground faults occurring anywhere in the system. The SC–40C also inserts a short time delay between the operation of each contactor thus improving power quality by limiting the inrush current. The RCU–4 Remote Control Unit supplied permits overriding zone control in applications requiring the capability.
The SC–40C is interchangeable with the earlier SC–40. For complete information describing its application, installation and features, please contact Customer Service or check on the web at www.networketi.com.

DESCRIPTION
The Snow Owl sensor is designed to work with a controller or contactor, optimizing energy usage in heated snow/ice melting applications. Snow Owl is also an excellent solution for building automation applications.
During dry or warm weather, the system’s heaters are turned off to save energy costs. The heaters are turned on only when snow and/or ice is present, and kept on only long enough to ensure complete melting and drying.
Temperature and time parameters are preset for optimum system performance.
Typical applications include controlling snow melting systems for driveways, sidewalks, doorways, stairs, loading docks, ramps for the physically challenged and parking garages. Easy installation is another key Snow Owl feature.
Low voltage operation, up to 2,000' (609.6m) separation from the control panel, mast or roof mounting, and non-critical extension wiring are just a few of the features making this possible.
