About this file
This document package includes an amendment to a solicitation and responses to contractor questions. The amendment provides responses to 27 questions from contractors regarding specifications, drawings, and project requirements for replacement of HVAC systems in four single-story housing buildings at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, Illinois. Key details include confirmation that seismic bracing is not required, clarification around duct installation, fence type matching, and responsibility for security. The response also attaches 12 specification sections and drawings for reference.
The related federal contract opportunity notice provides an overview of the required HVAC replacement project with a period of performance of 445 days from notice to proceed. The project is set aside for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses and has an estimated price range of $2-5 million. The pre-bid conference and bid opening dates are included, and the requirement is identified for contractors to monitor the site for any amendments. The Department of Veterans Affairs is the contracting agency.

ANSWER: Existing studs are assumed to be spaced at 16” o.c. per the original drawings as noted on detail 2/S-511. Duct sizes are as noted on Mechanical drawings. For more information, original drawings can be obtained from the VA COR.
10. Some duct/Jambs will be in contact with Existing Wood Truss, will the contractor be liable for structural calculation?
