REQUEST FOR INFORMATION RESPONSES:
The requests for information from prospective bidders collected through date of this Amendment have been answered in the attachment. Answers resulting in changes to contract specifications, drawings, and Scope of Work are reflected above.
Q69. If an electrical one line is unavailable and JCI has not provided any information on the electrical requirements of the equipment, how can a contractor provide a price for the electrical feeders to be installed?
A69. The JCI unit identified in the drawings is the basis of design unit only. Contractors are not required to install this particular unit. The bidding contractor, electrical contractor, mechanical contractor, etc. should coordinate the work and materials provided by each trade with result in a complete and functional end product. The VA has provided a one-line diagram of Building 43.
Q70. JCI still has not provided any information on the mechanical units of the project, can the VA provide this information to assist in the completion of this bid?
A70. Mechanical unit requirements will vary based on the selected unit. The JCI unit identified in the drawings is the basis of design unit only. Contractors are not required to install this particular unit. The bidding contractor, electrical contractor, mechanical contractor, etc. should coordinate the work and materials provided by each trade with result in a complete and functional end product. The basis of design cut sheets are provided for information only.
Q71. M-400 does not contain enough information for an electrical contractor to reference the latest version of the NEC to provide pricing for the electrical feeders. Can the required electrical information for the mechanical equipment be provided? Information needed; FLA, HP and Voltage in order to design/build the electrical feeders for the VA.
a. 43-SF1, please provide FLA and HP of complete unit.
b. 43-SF2, please provide FLA and HP of complete unit.
c. Does 43-SHC1 have any power requirements?
d. Does 43-ACCU2 have any power requirements?
e. Does 43-SH1 have any power requirements?
A71.
a. 43-SF1 requirements may vary depending on the unit selected (see responses 69 & 70 above). See Amendment 05 Attachments for basis of design 43-SF1 requirements.
b. 43-SF2 requirements may vary depending on the unit selected (see responses 69 & 70 above). See Amendment 05 Attachments for basis of design 43-SF2 requirements.
c. 43-SHC1 requirements may vary depending on the unit selected (see responses 69 & 70 above). See Amendment 05 Attachments for basis of design 43-SHC1 requirements.
d. 43-ACCU2requirements may vary depending on the unit selected (see responses 69 & 70 above). See Amendment 05 Attachments for basis of design 43-ACCU2 requirements.
e. 43-SH1 requirements may vary depending on the unit selected (see responses 69 & 70 above). See Amendment 05 Attachments for basis of design 43-SH1 requirements.
Q72. There is a statement in the scope of work that requires fire alarm per NFPA. Based on the work that is on the drawings, NFPA would require duct detectors on all the HVAC units. The SF1 & SF2 control drawings M-300 and M-301 show detectors on the supply fans. Because the size of these units, NFPA also requires duct detection on the returns of these units.
A72. Duct detectors added to the return ducts of both units. See Drawing Revisions.
Q73. Are the duct detectors provided by the HVAC unit manufacturer? They are not shown on electrical drawings.
A73. Duct detectors are not provided by the HVAC unit manufacturer. New duct detectors are shown on electrical Sheets ED-100 and E-101, as well as Sheets FPD-100, M-104, FPD-101, M-300, and M-301.
Q74. If they are provided by HVAC unit manufacturer, is the fire alarm contractor required to monitor them?
A74. Duct detectors are not provided by the unit manufacturer. Duct detectors are required to be tied into the existing fire alarm system.
Q75. Will the electrical contractor know they have to install fire alarm if not shown on drawings?
A75. General Note 2 on Sheet FPD-100 and FPD-101 states the all new control devices to be tied into existing fire alarm system located in the area. Contractor is responsible for following project Specifications and NFPA 13 requirements. Coordination between trades shall be conducted to ensure the bid provides a complete and functional end product.
Q76. Section 28 31 00 Fire Detection and Alarm calls for a digitized voice system for building 43. The fire alarm system was upgraded in 2017 and is not a voice system.
A76. Digitized voice system is not required in Building 43. See Specification Revisions. Tie-in to existing system shall be compatible with existing equipment.
