Again, key requirement is tensile strength.
4) Security screens shall be installed so that some of the windows can open. See following pages for specific details.
design amendment 5/2/18
EXAMPLES
A
Bldg 70, K-wing west. Hinged vertically, stainless steel mesh. Cannot be opened from outside. Flush with exterior wall.
Bldg 108 south. Steel - galvanized. Larger middle section so that window can be opened from inside.
Cannot be opened from outside.
Bldg 70, E-wing west. Painted steel. Cannot be opened from outside. Flush with exterior wall.
Bldg 102, south. Hinged vertically, painted and stainless steel mesh. Cannot be opened from outside. Flush with exterior wall.
The above security screening examples all meet VA Security requirements. They are tamper-proof from the exterior and cannot easily be opened with a screw-driver or tool from the outside. They meet or exceed the tensile strength requirements. Where required, the security screen allows the window to open for ventilation. Acceptable materials include stainless steel, galvanized steel or painted steel to prevent corrosion.
