REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) RESPONSES

The following questions and answers provide clarification to the contract documents:

1. Will the VA require low voltage wiring to be in conduit for this project? To include within the door frame of subtask 6, 4143 card reader. [Spec 28 05 28.33 / Dwg 006-002]

RESPONSE: Division 28 specifications call for EMT or RGS conduit on all low-voltage applications.

2. Please provide an estimated thickness of the cast-in-place concrete for coring purposes. [Spec 02 42 00 / Dwg 008-002]

RESPONSE: Concrete floor (deck) is between 10-11 inches thick throughout the hospital. Be advised that reinforcing bar placement is double-layered and as dense as 10-inches on center. VA recommends a thorough inspection (x-ray, ultrasound) prior to all hole coring.

3. Please provide the current wallpaper or BOD for the warped wall construction. [Spec 09 91 00 / Dwg 011-002]

RESPONSE: Refer to General Note #11 on drawing 011-002.

4. Please advise if the VA has internal measurements of the lengths and width of each of the security screens at BLDG 112. Getting accurate measurements during the site walk was not advantageous and requires a lift.

RESPONSE: There are no security screens present now at Bldg 112. Regarding existing measurements of windows at Bldg 112, refer to the drawings included with this amendment.

5. Please confirm that GCs are responsible for their own dumpsters and hauling of debris at Zablocki. *we have heard potential reports that the VA provides on certain projects. [Dwg G-002]

RESPONSE: Refer to specification 01 74 19, page 7, article 3.1.

6. Please confirm if primes carry the cost of decontamination/bunny suits etc. at Zablocki.

RESPONSE: Yes.

7. Is the contractor responsible for protecting equipment in the CATH LAB (similar to protections explained for existing radiology equipment in Room 2445, dwg 001-005) during construction? [Dwg 004-003]

RESPONSE: Yes. Implement same protections (plastic, bubble-wrap, etc.) in your work plan to show that existing CATH LAB equipment, which will not be removed, is protected during construction.

8. Please clarify or provide additional information regarding the window screening. We have a few questions regarding design and installation.

a. It appears the windows push out to open. Do the screens need to be built out away from the window?

b. How is the locking mechanism to work if it is on the outside of the window? How do you access it?

c. Please provide a sketch of what you want the framework to look like and how it will mount to the building. Or pictures of existing window screening you are trying to match?

RESPONSE: Refer to the drawings included with this amendment. No locking mechanism is required from outside the window (to be periodically unlocked and relocked). VA Police require that the security screens be secured from the outside with hardware such that common tools cannot open them.
