About this file

This document is a Request for Quote (RFQ) Amendment for the Ann Arbor VA Healthcare System's Modernize Building 22 project, focusing on laboratory casework and research benching. The solicitation requires procurement, design, and installation of enterprise benches and lab casework for multiple rooms across the ground and first floors of Building 22, with specific requirements including Kewaunee Scientific "Enterprise" modular benching, steel lab casework, and associated mobile cabinets.

Key specifications include enterprise benches with 5' width, varying heights (30"-36"), Black Kemresin 1" tops, 2 data/circuit points, 4 white duplex outlets, and 3-tier shelving configurations. Each room has detailed bench and cabinet requirements, with specific quantities ranging from 2-8 benches per room. The project mandates installation by 11/30/2025, requires three in-person meetings, field measurements, sample material submissions, and post-installation review. The contractor must provide AutoCAD drawings, maintain a manufacturing schedule, and offer 30 days of free storage, with potential for additional time due to renovation phasing.

1. In the Combined Synopsis the Enterprise Bench services details: (2)data (1) circuit each, 4 white duplexes, yet on page 2/3 under A.1 Price/Cost Schedule Item Information (Power-Data Bar/AIR/NIT) services are called out for the Enterprise Workstations. Please confirm what services are required.

Answer: The SOW, it calls out for all stations: “Each bench to have 2 data, 1 circuit each, 4 white duplex”

2. The Combined Synopsis details: (1)Sink Station being called out in Room 124 West Wall, on the floor plan there are multiple sink stations highlighted. How many sink stations are required on the project?

Answer: There should be no sink stations at all, this is just benching. Casework was removed. Language specifying sink stations on line item 1 (is to be disregarded). In addition, please see the revised Statement of Work (SOW) and drawing attached to this amendment. The documents in this amendment (0001) replace the SOW and drawing attached to the original solicitation.

3. The basis of design as called out for the benches is based on Kewaunee "Enterprise" benches.

This design has model numbers specific to both single sided and double-sided units, Based on the quantities noted at the various locations I would say that the request is for single sided units throughout. The design as detailed on the Basement and First Floor show that double-sided units could be utilized at the island locations while the wall locations would require single-sided units.

Providing them in this manner would help reduce the overall cost of the project. Please verify whether we can price this as described with both single and double sided units or if they are to all be single sided.

Answer: This could be either single or double. It is up to the vendor what they chose to respond with…

4. The Combined Synopsis/Solicitation Notice for the project noted above contains a great deal of information, however I was curious as to whether a separate Project Manual exists. Please let me know at your earliest convenience.

Answer: No.

5. Please provide the material type, (i.e. Wood or Steel), required for the shelves located at the benches.

Answer: Steel

6. Also, with regard to the shelves associated with the benches, please verify whether or not each shelf requires a shelf retaining rod. If so, please provide the material type required for the rod, (powder coated steel or stainless steel or a wooden lip at wood shelf locations).

Answer: Not to our knowledge.

7. Please verify whether a shelf retaining rod is required on the back side of each shelf when located on single sided benches.

Answer: Not to our knowledge.

8. When utilizing double-sided benches, please verify whether separate circuits are required for each side or if they should share a circuit. Please note that the ceiling service panels that were supplied in a previous project were provided with a single circuit per panel.

Answer: Single circuit

9. Please provide the door hinge and pull type required as well as the finish requirements for each, (i.e. Chrome, Stainless Steel).

Answer: Can’t provide without understanding the options available to us…can be determined during pre-award negotiations or after award.
