About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document from a federal contract solicitation for bi-fold door assemblies. The Government requires twelve (12) interior, non-impact-rated, non-hurricane bi-fold doors designed for healthcare facilities. All doors must meet a height requirement measured to the top of the false ceiling, with no construction modifications permitted to accommodate dimensional variations. The Government confirmed it will not accept 4-panel bi-part fold doors or systems wider than a single bi-fold's maximum 63-inch width; instead, contractors must provide 2-panel bi-folding door configurations to meet the approximately 96-inch width requirement.
Regarding technical specifications, electronic locking is no longer required, though access control compatibility remains mandatory for controlling door activation without requiring special equipment installation by the contractor. The Government will consider alternative products only if they meet or exceed all salient characteristics including tempered glass, automatic locking capabilities, access-control compatibility, and safety features. For alternative systems such as the proposed 6-panel Stanley Durafit telescoping door, contractors must submit product cut sheets with their quotation for technical review. The solicitation specification requires 2-panel bi-folding doors, and all offers will undergo technical evaluation to determine acceptability.

• All twelve (12) Units are Interior non-impact-rated/non-hurricane Bi-Fold Doors….is this correct? - Yes
• Could you please confirm whether there is any flexibility in the height requirement?
Specifically, would a product with a lower maximum height be considered if the remaining 5½-inch difference can be accommodated through field construction or by another trade? The Height is to the top of the false ceiling. We are not doing any construction to change height. Most we will do is add a 2x4 across the top as a header if needed.
• Additionally, please confirm whether products that meet or exceed the functional and performance requirements, despite this dimensional difference, will be considered acceptable. We are set on Bi-fold doors. All offers will be technically reviewed.
• We would need to utilize a Bi-Part Fold door at 96” to meet the required width. Our max width for a single bi-fold is 63”. Is this 4-Panel Bi-Part acceptable? No. The height is restricted to the false ceiling.
• Please also confirm whether the built-in automatic/electric lock remains required under Section B.2, paragraph 4.5? No, electronic locking is not a requirement
B.2 Statement of Need Par: 4.5 Locking and Access Control Compatibility
The door assembly shall have an internal or built-in auto lock system and shall be capable of accepting existing Government access control system.
The door system shall allow for interface with access control devices installed separately by the Government.
The contractor is not required to furnish or install access control components beyond connection to Government-provided wiring.
Manual locking is not required.
A fire-rated door assembly is not required for this requirement.
No minimum gap is required above the door assembly
• Proposed system Stanley Durafit automatic bi-parting, six-panel telescoping door is designed for healthcare facilities and can accommodate the approximately 96-inch-wide by 97-inch-high openings. It is available with safety sensors, an electric solenoid lock, and access-control integration. However, it is a six-panel telescoping system rather than the specified single bi-fold slide/fold configuration.
- Would the Government accept this system as an “or equal” product, provided it meets or exceeds all other salient characteristics, including tempered glass, automatic locking, access-control compatibility, safety features, and installation requirements?
• Access control compatibility is required; however, the access control is controlling activation, and no special equipment is needed.
• As far as the 6-panel Stanley telescopic door is concerned, the cut sheet needs to be sent with your quotation for review. The solicitation is for 2 panel bi-folding doors.
