Request for Proposals 36C24619R0087
Project: 659-18-106, Exhaust Hoods Building 8 and Building 42
Responses to RFP Questions #1
1. Question: Keyed Note 1 states to relocate the existing access panel for the roll up door if the hood blocks access in multiple locations. Has the VA confirmed that by moving this access panel and whether it will meet code? Further notes indicate to relocate other existing items to accommodate hood, this does not address the access panel to the roll up door motor and if it is possible to relocate this item and still properly access the motor for testing and service.
Answer: Provide and install framing and a 2’x2’ access panel under the rollup door bulkhead near the rollup door motor-see revised drawings. Relocate existing can lights if required.
2. Question: Has it been verified how adding this hood will impact the TAB of the existing HVAC system? This is currently not covered in the specification please indicate that it is not part of the contract and the contractor will not be held responsible for any existing conditions pertaining to the mechanical system as no information is given. Currently there is no test and balance spec or information shown on expectations except that the kitchen hood and room should be negative. Please provide all applicable information.
Answer: The contractor shall provide a T&B report but shall not make any adjustments to the buildings hvac system.
3. Question: Currently, drawing M 01 indicates for the electrical / low voltage and plumbing contractor to verify existing conditions and add / verify if it is possible to add to the existing system. Can a floor plan showing where the panels the VA plans on using is located with panel designation, current panel schedule and any other available information regarding the existing power panel? Can a floor plan be provided showing any information on the existing fire alarm system? Can any plumbing or hydronic piping / mechanical as-builts be providing indicating the possible layout of these items?
Answer: See power plans and panel schedules for buildings 8 and 42 attached.
4. Question: Existing Roof Manufacturer / Type. Please indicate if the existing roof is under warranty and if so what type of roof is on each building and whom the manufacture is.

Answer: 5/8” type ‘x’. Level 4 finish.
11. Question: Missing painting spec. Will a painting specification be issued?
Answer: One prime coat and two finish coats. SW paint.
12. Question: Currently specification 01 45 00 Quality Control requires a CQC plan and a good deal of work for this spec section. Will the VA consider removing this spec section to help keep the cost within budget, as this specification is not used consistently in VA projects and currently for a project this size would not bring a great deal of value considering it is not that large or complex?
Answer: Revised – see attached.
