About this file

This document contains responses to questions regarding a solicitation to decommission medical vacuum equipment at a Department of Veterans Affairs medical center. The solicitation is for a construction contract requiring no more than 85% of the amount paid to be to a non-SDVOSB. The Buy American Act and VA directives on medical gas and vacuum systems will apply. Pictures and details of piping tie-in points and the space available for new piping will be provided. Shutdown time of existing systems should be minimal, with portable vacuum pumps used, though some work may need to be done after hours to avoid disrupting normal operations. ICRA procedures will need to be followed when working in ceilings. Cutsheets for any proposed Medi-Trac or Medlok piping system valves must be reviewed and approved prior to use. The size and loads of the new vacuum piping and number of inlets served will be determined by the contractor.

(some medical gas manufacturers commonly spec’d on VA projects do not meet current regulatory standards). The Buy American Act, FAR 52.225-9 and FAR 52.225-10 will be enforced on this project because this considered a construction project.

9. Will ICRA booths need to be established while working in the ceiling? ICRA procedures will need to be met.

10. Can the facility provide plans for the existing vacuum piping that is being demoed? No – Contractor can look through our hard drawings.

11. Will there be a need to core drill between the floors, or is there a piping chase available? Assume that core drilling will be required.
