QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

1. Will the contractor be given swipe card access for its employees to have access into the building as necessary? If not, how will the VAMC assure access that will not delay construction activities?

No. The contractor will not be given swipe card access. The contractor is escorted by the FMS or Police every day. The only door that is locked and needs swipe card access is the main entrance of Building 21. The other doors in the building are open.

1. Will MRI Solutions receive and rig all equipment into the renovated room, or will assistance from the contractor be required?

Yes. The MR Solutions will receive and install the MRI scanner and equipment.

Based on the Preliminary Site Planning Guide, MR Solutions will make all interconnections of its system components. Final power connections to mains supply are the user’s responsibility. MR Solutions will prepare both a site-specific planning guide and will produce a scheme layout. The customer is responsible for all mechanical, electrical and construction work.

1. Is it the intent that the contractor will complete all work with the exception of the temporary opening for installation of the MRI, then close this opening once the new MRI and equipment is in place? How is the temporary opening to be closed? Permanently, or with some type of removable panel?

The temporary opening is for equipment installation only. There will be a permanent wall after that.

1. Are additional lighting fixtures required? If so, do you have a fixture specification and layout?

No. There are no additional lighting fixtures required. Partial removal of acoustic ceiling tiles and lighting fixtures are expected because of the renovations. The items will be back in place after work is completed.

1. The MRI Solutions Room Requirements indicate that Internet connections are required. Will the VAMC provide and install these connections?

Yes. IT Department at VAMC provide and install Internet connections. A wired Internet connection is needed (not Wi-Fi). The contractor is responsible for electrical work and wiring related to Internet connections.

1. The MRI Solutions Room Requirements indicate that the room environment must be kept at 30% to 60% humidity at 20oC. Will there be BAS control work required to maintain these parameters? Will the control work be part of this contract, or will the VAMC perform this work independently?

The VAMC has BAS for temperature and humidity control.

1. The statement of work (Item 3) implies that an existing VAV box will be used to the new MRI room. Will this affect the HVAC in the remainder of the room?

Relocation of ductwork and VAV box may be needed as part of the renovation. Are we required to rebalance the room? Yes. Air balance of the room is required to maintain the air flow/pressure requirements.

1. Which distribution panels are the new electric power coming from?

The electrical closet is Room A308. Refer to the PDF drawing for existing floor plan. There are spare breakers in electrical panels. There is both single phase and 3 phase required. Is any of this power considered Emergency power? Based on the PDF drawing of new room layout, there will be a UPS for the MRI unit that supply power for 2 hours. The installation of red outlets for emergency power is needed. Can shutdowns required to make tie-ins to these panels be during normal working hours, will tie-ins be required during off hours? If off hours are required, can they be performed on Saturdays, or must they be performed at night? The shutdowns require two weeks’ notice and they can be performed outside normal working hours (at nights, weekends).

1. Is there a location layout for the new electric power receptacles?

No. Refer to the room layout from MR Solutions. The location of the units is shown in the proposed plan. Refer to the PG 18-10 – Electrical Design Manual in VA’s Technical Information Library (TIL) for more information.

1. Are there any special requirement for the new wall constructions (fire rating, lead lined, etc…)?

No. Do you have a size for the new door and window? The same size and material as the existing door and window. Refer to the room layout from MR Solutions.
