About this file
This document is a set of additional request for information (RFI) responses for the VA Montrose Relocation of Radiology Suite B3 project. The RFIs address various technical and architectural details, including:
Key clarifications include specifying a lead-lined door for the X-Ray Room (Door D11), confirming base and flooring specifications for specific rooms, resolving inconsistencies in drawing section symbols, identifying work locations for cable raceways and masonry, and clarifying specifications for drapery tracks, site surveys, and medical gas systems. The responses provide specific guidance on installation requirements, such as a new medical gas alarm panel to be installed in the Technologist Room 48B, confirming utility locations, and specifying that the contractor will install medical gas outlets for VA-provided flow meters and regulators.

1) Drawing A401 door leaf LF and door frame FR3 indicates lead-lined but nothing shown on the door schedule as to which door and frame are lead-lined. (Architect)
2) Drawing A600 finish schedule indicates all rooms to receive base type B1 which is rubber base, but the (2) rooms which receive RSF flooring should have the same material integral base, doesn't it? (Architect)
3) Drawings S101 and S111 have "secon" symbols but all are le blank. See below (Matt T)
Therefore, secons which are shown on drawing S301 cannot be idenfied.
4) Detail 12/S901 Where is this work? Please idenfy on plan. (Matt T)
5) In the spec book there is division no.4 for masonry work, but no work is shown on drawings. (Architect, Matt T. weigh in if necessary)
6) There is a spec secon for Gypsum Plastering, but no work is shown on drawings.
(Architect)
7) There is a spec secon for Drapery Track and Accessories, but no work is shown on drawings. (Architect)
8) There is a spec secon for Site Surveys, but no work is shown on drawings.
(Answer: See civil drawings. Design intent is for contractor to confirm utility locations shown on drawings in area of work per this specification.)
Refer to revised Enlarged Foundation and Slab Plan, S-101. Between Existing Column Lines 15 and 16. There is slab removal and replacement for a cable raceway. The section through the slab removal and replacement for cable raceway references 9/S-301. Detail 9/S-301 provides details for the cable raceway. Detail 12/S-901 is referenced for the seat angle at the floor plate of the cable raceway.
See civil drawings. Design intent is for contractor to confirm utility locations shown on drawings in area of work per this specification
Refer to corrected sheets S101 and S111 with section tags , attached to this document.
Please omit Gypsum Plastering Spec. Section.
Refer to item A5180, the tracks with curtain shown on Sheets A701 and A702 listed as VA provided and VA installed. The specification is included for informational purposes only, in case any construction work is required to facilitate future installation.
There will be only a small amount of masonry work consisting of a brick wall infill where the window is being removed in the bathroom. Refer to Detail 10 /A301.
Door D11 to X-Ray Room 48I door leaf to be LF and door frame FR3.
Rooms 48H and 48I with RSF 1 flooring also to have 4" B1 rubber base.

9) Spec secon 05 12 00 calls for AISC cerfied fabricator and erector for the work of structural steel. Usually, AISC requirements are for the ground-up construcon and not for the work of interior renovaons. (Matt T)
10) The steam humidifier electrical specs vary on the drawing. It appears that the correct circuit is 100amp per the riser diagram. Please confirm. (Scott B and Gabe P)
11) The manufacturer is specifying a remote annunciator. Where is this to be located? (Gabe Per NFPA 110 a remote annunciator must be located where it can be readily monitored by facility personnel, such as engineering control station, fire command center, etc.
THE LOCATION WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE VA PERSONNEL ON-SITE
12) Does the generator have an electrical panel within the enclosure? There is no menon of this or any feeder for it. If not, is there a feed for the block heater, charger or outlet?
(Gabe P) - The Generator must be provided with an accessory load center mounted within the generator enclosure. Provide 125A, 240/120V, 1P3W load center. This will provide power for the following:
- Jacket Water Heater (JWH)
- Enclosure heater
- Battery charger
- Louvers
- Convenience receptacle
- Separate Pump
- Separate Filtration System This 125A Panel was included in the Basis of Design by Caterpillar to be within the Generator Enclosure.
13) There must be an EPO buton. Is there a locaon for this? (Gabe P) Per NFPA 110 this must be mounted outside the room housing the alternate source prime mover. In this case it could be on the exterior of the genset enclosure
14) Is there any remote monitoring of the generator? If so, what are the requirements?
(Gabe P) Remote annunciator, remote estop are provided to meet NFPA 110 compliance. THE LOCATION WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE VA PERSONNEL ON-SITE
15) If required, please update the conduit requirements. (Gabe P)
16) There is no info for the oil pumps. (Gabe P / Scott B)
17) The oxygen manifold on P-102 currently shows a 1x1 tank manifold. An NFPA compliant system requires a minimum of a 2x2 manifold. (Scott B)
18) For one medical air outlet I feel a medical air compressor system is severely oversized. A simple medical air manifold can be installed (Scott B)
19) The medical vacuum exhaust and medical air intake plans is not clear on exisng condions to meet NFPA setbacks. (Scott B)
Basis of Design steam humidifier requires a 20A circuit. Refer to schedule on sheet M-601.
Waiving of AISC certified fabricator and erector requirement shall be determined by the Contracting Office Representative. Note, requirements for special inspection of fabricated items shall be adhered to if the fabricator has not been approved to perform work without special inspection.

20) Plans do not show an area medical gas alarm panel to monitor oxygen, medical air and vacuum within the suite. (Scott B)
21) The oxygen manifold, vacuum system and medical air source systems are required to be monitored by 2 master alarm panels. Are the master alarm panels existing in the facility? Or do new master alarm panels need to be installed. if they already exist, we need more information on existing master alarm panels, is there enough spare signals and locations.
(Scott B)
22) On P-102 it does not show the piping distances between the mechanical rm#039 and the Radiology suite. We cannot accurately bid the project. (Scott B)
23) Regarding rigging for the medical vacuum/medical air source systems. Is a crane required, or can they be rolled up an a dolly through the facility and up the elevators. (Scott B)
24) Flow meters/Vacuum regulators – On plan P-102 it shows contractor supplied and on A-702 it shows VA acquired. Please confirm. (Scott B)
Medical gas alarm panel is to be installed in accordance with project specifications. New master alarm panel is to be monitored in Technologist Room 48B.
Where is requirement for 2 master alarm panels? New master alarm panel is to be installed in accordance with project specifications and installed in Technologist Room 48B.

Precision
Provides capability of humidifier to achieve ± 1% humidity control*. Solid State Relays allow for rapid response upon call for humidity, adapting rapidly to humidity demand. This allows for quick response and tight control of humidity. Also supplied are two fill valves for quicker response (turbo mode).
* Humidity control is dependent on a variety of factors, including design of piping from humidifier to distributor, duct characteristics from distributor to space, control devices and location. In-field results may vary. Relative humidity levels in the supply duct will vary greater than in-space tolerance levels.
1x P
Scale tank
Provides a separate reservoir underneath the steam cylinder for scale collection. The addition of this op-tion reduces maintenance time significantly. Minerals removed from the water during steam production will collect in the scale reservoir rather than in the tank. For the double tank humidifiers (RS 135 and 180), order two for each humidifier.

20 Mounting and Installation Work 2582419-E EN 2303
The installation site of the Nortec RS depends largely on the location of the steam distributor/blower pack (see Section 5.4.3 and Section 5.4.4). To ensure proper functioning of the steam humidifier and to obtain an optimal efficiency, the following points must be considered and observed when choosing the location for the steam humidifier:
– Install the steam humidifier so that:
– the length of the steam line is kept as short as possible,
– the minimum bend radius for steam hoses (R= 12" / 300 mm) and for solid steam pipes (5 x internal diameter)
– the minimum upslope 10° and downslope 2° of the steam hose is maintained.
– For details of mounting the Nortec RS, refer to Section 5.3.2.
CAUTION!
Do not mount the steam humidifier directly to the ventilation duct.
– The back panel of the Nortec RS retains heat during operation (max. surface temperature of the metal housing approx. 140 - 158 °F / 60 - 70 °C). Make sure, therefore, that the construction (wall, pillar, etc.) to which the unit is to be mounted, does not consist of heat-sensitive material.
– Install the Nortec RS in such a manner that it is freely accessible with sufficient space available for maintenance purposes. The minimum distances shown in the adjacent illustration must be maintained.
– The Nortec RS is protected according to IP21. As a safeguard, the humidifier should be installed in a drip-proof location. Admissible ambient conditions must be complied with.
– Do not mount the Nortec RS to hot or very cold walls or near vibrating components.
– The steam humidifier Nortec RS must only be installed in rooms with a floor drain.
CAUTION!
If for some reason the Nortec RS must be installed in a location without floor drain, it is mandatory to provide a leakage monitoring device to safely interrupt the water supply in case of leakage.
– When mounting the Nortec RS use only the mounting materials supplied with the unit. If mount-ing with the materials supplied is not possible in your particular case, select a method of mounting that is of similar stability.
– The Nortec RS is designed for installation and operation within buildings (admissible temperature range 41... 104 °F / 5...40 °C). For outdoor operation the Nortec RS must be placed in a weather protective housing. If ambient temperatures near or below the freezing point have to be expected, the protective housing must be equipped with a thermostat controlled heating of sufficient capacity.
The water supply pipe must be equipped with heat-tracing and must be insulated up to the protec-tive housing. For outdoor operation, the Keep Warm function must be enabled. The installation of a normally open valve inside the building envelope that will drain water in case of power failure is highly recommended.

5.4.4 Positioning and Mounting the Blower Packs
The blower packs can either be mounted directly on the humidifier or separately above the humidifier to the wall. To allow the steam coming from the blower pack to spread out evenly, without condensing on obstacles (ceilings, joists, pillars, etc.), the following minimum dimensions must be observed when selecting the location for the blower pack.
Even small objects that encroach into the steam distribution area may create condensation and reduce efficiency.
WARNING!
Risk of burn injuries!
The blower pack discharges hot steam and presents a burn hazard. Care must be taken when the humidifier is in operation and when in the vicinity of the blower pack.

Note: The minimum spaces in the table apply for a room atmosphere of 72ºF (21ºC), and max 40% RH. For lower temperatures and/or higher humidity the clearance values will increase, and should be adjusted accordingly.
Note: In order to achieve a uniform distribution of the humidity within the room, additional factors such as the room size, the room height, etc., must be taken into consideration besides observing the minimum distances for the blower packs. If you have questions concerning the direct room humidification, please contact your Condair representative.
Further information is provided in the separate installation and operating instructions for the correspond-ing blower pack.
5.4.5 Installing the Steam and Condensate lines
Installations notes
– Use original steam and condensate hose from your Condair representative or solid steam pipes from copper (MED-L) or stainless steel (min. AISI 304) exclusively. Steam and condensate lines of other material may cause undesired operational malfunctions. For installations with reverse osmosis or de-ionized water supply, do not use copper steam lines.
– Initially, lead the steam line upright upwards min. 12" (300 mm) above the humidifier.
