About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document from an Industry Day for a VA laundry facility project in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The document addresses inquiries about a potential new laundry facility construction project, revealing key operational details including: current facility size of 10,030 GSF with new facility limited to 11,000 GSF due to Legislative Seismic Funding requirements; daily laundry demand of 6-7K pounds with an additional 2,000 pounds during emergencies; and specific linen requirements such as non-elastic-hemmed fitted sheets for mental health units and specialized linens for Community Living Centers.

The Q&A indicates this will be a Small Business and SDVOSB set-aside opportunity. The VA is currently creating a maintenance contract for existing GA Braun equipment. No special infection control certifications are required as contractors won't handle contaminated linen. The VA indicates openness to performance-based contracts with shared savings from sustainability efforts, depending on the procurement method (Service, Construction, or lease). The medical center plans to use the existing facility until transitioning to a new one or contracting out services, eliminating the need for temporary contracted services during construction.
