About this file

Spirit Reach Contemplative Path Construction Project

This file comprises 100% construction documents and specifications for the Spirit Reach Contemplative Path project, a joint initiative of the San Antonio River Authority located in Bexar County, Texas. The project encompasses construction of approximately 3,200 linear feet of concrete trail, 1,400 linear feet of natural surface trail, and 1,400 linear feet of stream restoration work, along with bridges, boardwalks, plazas, signage, feature walls, gateways, interpretive signage, plantings, and stream restoration improvements. The project extends public connectivity along the Olmos Creek (flowing into the Upper San Antonio River south of East Hildebrand Avenue) and links major regional destinations including the Missions, Riverwalk, Pearl District, Brackenridge Park, University of the Incarnate Word, Blue Hole, and Headwaters Sanctuary. The work includes a safe crossing under Hildebrand Avenue to complete connections between Brackenridge Park and the river's headwaters. The project is prepared by Stantec, a multidisciplinary design firm with landscape architects, structural engineers, civil engineers, stream designers, and survey professionals responsible for different specification sections. The contract is structured as a single prime contract for construction operations, with comprehensive Division 01 sections covering general requirements, project management, submittal procedures, quality requirements, temporary facilities, and closeout procedures.

The engineer's cost estimate for this project is $4.98 million. The specifications establish performance requirements for concrete paving and trails, masonry work, structural steel framing, electrical systems, site furnishings, landscaping, stream restoration, erosion and sedimentation control, and historic treatment procedures. The documents include detailed technical specifications organized by division and section, with requirements for materials testing, quality assurance, field inspections, and compliance with industry standards including ACI, ASTM, AWS, and Texas Department of Transportation specifications. Project execution requires adherence to environmental protection measures, erosion and sedimentation control plans, temporary tree and plant protection, historic treatment procedures where applicable, and construction phasing to maintain public access and minimize disruption to existing operations. The contract documents establish that contractors must maintain permanent facilities used during construction, provide demonstration and training, submit comprehensive project record documents upon completion, and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations regarding construction, environmental protection, and historic preservation.
