This is a fabrication specification document for Airport Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) cab glass units issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), effective August 20, 2025. The specification establishes technical requirements for the manufacture and delivery of replacement glass units to FAA and other governmental and municipal aircraft control towers located throughout the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Guam. Products must be delivered FOB to FAA Logistics (FAALC) at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, or directly to designated ATCT sites.

The specification mandates compliance with multiple American National Standards Institute (ANSI), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and industry association standards for glass products, including laminated and insulating glass units. Glass must be sourced from one of five approved manufacturers: Vitro/PPG, Nippon/Pilkington, Saint-Gobain, Guardian, or AGC Glass. All glass must meet ASTM C 1036-11 Type I, Class I, Q2 standards with specific blemish limitations. Fabricators must be approved by primary glass manufacturers, maintain Insulating Glass Certification Council (IGCC) certification, and demonstrate successful fabrication of FAA cab glass units under at least five federal contracts within the past five years. Submittals for each delivery order include product data, 12" x 12" samples, compatibility certificates, test reports, and user information. Warranties extend for 10 years after final acceptance (5 years for units exceeding 65 square feet or 96 by 96 inches for insulating glass), covering deterioration under normal use conditions. Delivery, storage, and handling must comply with manufacturer instructions, with all units transported vertically and sealants fully cured before shipment.
