About this file

This is a Frequently Asked Questions document supporting the Paving The Way Project 10 solicitation issued by the Macon-Bibb County Board of Commissioners in Georgia. The project involves comprehensive roadway milling and paving operations with specific technical requirements for asphalt placement, patching, and shoulder work. Key project specifications include full-width milling from curb to curb, placement of 12.55mm asphalt at 1.50 inches depth for patching operations, and 9.5mm Type 1 asphalt at 1.25 inches depth for most roads (1.50 inches on Fulton Mill Road). Work hours are limited to 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, or as daylight permits, with night work available by special request. Contractors must remove all clipped shoulder material from the site and complete final repaving within one day of milling operations. The pre-bid conference is scheduled for June 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with a question submission deadline of June 26, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Sealed bids are due by noon on July 16, 2026, with public opening at 2:00 p.m. the same day.

The FAQs clarify that advance warning signs may be placed on tripods or post-mounted, asphalt compaction testing is not required, and patching areas should be at least one lane width to accommodate milling equipment. Contractors must bid both manhole and water valve adjustment items as well as riser options, with the final selection to be determined in the field. A shuttle buggy is permitted but not required for 12.5mm placement operations. No driveway paving is included in the scope, and patching milling depth is limited to a maximum of four inches to remove cracking as needed. The document confirms that patching mix must match the paving mix specifications, addressing common contractor questions about material standards and work methodologies for this infrastructure improvement project.
