About this file
This is a Frequently Asked Questions document issued by Macon-Bibb County on March 20, 2026, regarding a milling and paving project. The project involves milling existing asphalt surfaces, patching damaged areas to a maximum depth of four inches, and applying a 12.55mm (1.50-inch) asphalt overlay. Work on the project is limited to 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, or as daylight permits, with special requests for night work on downtown streets subject to approval. Contractors are required to mill and pave through side road curb radii but are not required to pave driveways. Milled surfaces must be repaved within one day of milling completion. Patching areas must be at least one lane width, and contractors must use discretion in determining which areas require patching. Shoulder clipping work requires removal of all clipped material from the site. The county does not require submission of asphalt compaction tests and allows contractors discretion regarding the use of shuttle buggies during placement of the 12.5mm asphalt.
Advanced warning signs may be placed on tripod stands or post-mounted at the contractor's discretion. Patching mix must match the paving mix specifications. The bid sheet lists manholes and water valves twice, requiring contractors to bid both adjustment and riser items, with the specific method to be determined during field work. No shoulder building, grassing, barrel placement, or low/soft shoulder signage is required on shoulders without curb and gutter, beyond the clipping and removal of shoulder material.
