About this file
This Frequently Asked Questions document supports the Paving the Way Project 5 bid solicitation issued by the Macon-Bibb County Board of Commissioners in Georgia. The project involves asphalt milling and paving operations on multiple road segments, with work authorized during standard business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or as daylight permits, with special requests for night work subject to approval. Key project specifications include full-depth milling from curb lip to curb lip or road edge to road edge, patching to a maximum depth of four inches to remove cracking, and asphalt placement of 12.55mm (1.50 inches) for patching and either 1.25 inches or 1.5 inches for topping depending on the road segment. The document clarifies that milled surfaces must be repaved within one day of milling, advance warning signs may be placed on tripods or post-mounted, shoulder clipping material must be removed from the site, and both manhole and water valve adjustments and risers should be bid as separate line items pending field determination. Asphalt compaction testing is not required, and a shuttle buggy is permitted but not mandated for placing 12.5mm asphalt. Driveway paving is excluded from the scope, though milling and paving at side road intersections must extend through the side road end of the curb radius. The pre-bid conference was scheduled for February 4, 2026, with the question submission deadline of February 6, 2026, and sealed bids due by noon on February 26, 2026, with public opening at 2 p.m. that same day. The document specifies that Type 1 9.5mm asphalt will be used and that patching mix must match the paving mix being placed.
