About this file

This is a Scope of Work for a Department of Defense construction project addressing infrastructure repair at a military installation.

The project, titled "Old Sawmill Road Culvert Repairs" (Project #26-0045), requires the contractor to repair a sinkhole formed over a failed reinforced concrete pipe segment located at the intersection of Old Sawmill Road and Holcomb Boulevard. The detailed requirements include sawing and removing approximately 12 linear feet of asphalt pavement, removing concrete curbing and flume, and excavating to expose the failed storm drain pipe while inspecting adjacent structures for damage. The contractor must remove and dispose of the damaged reinforced concrete pipe (RCP), bedding material, and unsuitable soils, then fill subsurface voids with compacted select fill. A new 18-inch RCP (Class IV or V) must be installed with gasketed joints, proper bedding, and backfill compacted in 6-inch lifts to 95% maximum dry density per ASTM D1557. The pavement section, curbing, flume, and other disturbed items must be restored to match existing conditions prior to demolition, with all debris disposed of off-base and disturbed areas sodded upon completion.

The contractor bears full responsibility for locating and protecting all underground utilities including telecommunications and commercial cabling, with 30-day advance notification required to base telephone for utility conflicts. The contractor must coordinate all construction activities with the contracting officer, comply with applicable state and base codes, maintain jobsite cleanliness, and assume all liability for utility damage. The contractor is also responsible for all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance in accordance with its own policies and procedures.

12lf)

2. Remove and dispose of concrete curbing and flume as required to facilitate the excavation required to replace the failed storm drain pipe.

3. Excavate to expose the failed reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) and inspect adjacent pipe and structures for further damage.

If necessary, use an external joint coupler on the joint between the existing pipe and the new pipe to assist in sealing the joint in addition to the gasketed joints or if a butt joint is required.

7. Compact backfill in 6" lifts to 95% maximum dry density as determined by a modified proctor (D1557)

8. Retain existing drainage structures and existing pipe not demolished to the maximum extent possible.

9. Restore pavement section, curbing, flume, and any other existing items that were demolished to match existing conditions prior to demo. See pavement section on detail sheet C501.

10. Dispose of all materials off base.
