About this file

This is a technical specification document for the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) Fleet Services for the purchase of 32 twenty-five ton tag-a-long trailers. The specification details a 25-ton non-tilt beaver tail type tri-axle air ride trailer designed to transport heavy construction equipment, including excavators weighing 30,000 to 50,000 pounds. The trailer must be capable of handling full loads at 50 mph without sway or bounce. The specification document outlines comprehensive technical requirements across eleven major categories, including trailer dimensions (102 inches wide, 24 feet deck length with six-foot beaver tail), frame and deck construction (14-inch minimum hi-tensile wide flange I-beam with 8-inch side rails), axle and brake systems (three 22,500-pound capacity axles with air ride suspension and ABS brakes), lighting and wiring systems compliant with DOT and ICC codes, tire specifications (215/75R17.5 load range H), and paint requirements using industrial highway yellow. Bidders must indicate compliance with each specification using standardized abbreviations (X for meeting specification, N/A for not available, DI for dealer installed, and AE for approved equal process) and provide detailed explanations for any exceptions or alternative equipment.

All materials, parts, and labor necessary for complete manufacture and delivery of the trailers are included in the quoted price. The specification requires that all parts be new and of manufacturer's best quality conforming to industry best practices, with no used, reconditioned, or obsolete parts accepted. Additional requirements include delivery to specified Maine locations (with the awarded bidder responsible for unloading and any damage), warranty coverage effective from the in-service date, provision of operator and shop repair manuals, and warranty and service facilities located within 75 miles of MDOT division headquarters in Scarborough, Augusta, Dixfield, Bangor, and Caribou. Optional pricing is requested for deck design features including removable two-inch solid pins with integrated pockets and factory inspection services. Bidders must submit complete specification sheets, equipment line sheets, frame construction documentation, and any exceptions as separate documents; failure to provide requested information or submission of false or misleading information will result in bid rejection as unresponsive.
