About this file

This is a Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) document for programmable cartridges containing lithium batteries, designated by SPI No. F01-142-0803. The document provides detailed specifications for packaging and shipping programmable cartridges that contain non-rechargeable solid cathode lithium batteries (5.22 grams of lithium per cell).

The instruction details two packaging levels (A and B) with specific dimensional requirements, preservation methods, and handling procedures for electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive devices. Key components include inner containers, cushioning materials, barrier bags, and specialized marking requirements compliant with UN 3091 regulations for lithium batteries contained in equipment. The document also includes mandatory shipping instructions for cases where cartridges are shipped without lithium batteries installed, requiring specific certification statements and documentation. The packaging must comply with Title 49 CFR 173.185 requirements and includes detailed tables listing eight different NSN variations of the programmable cartridge, all using the same battery type (6135-01-142-6456 WF).
