About this file
This is a notice insert document issued by Henry County, Georgia's Tax Assessors' Office regarding 2025 property tax assessments and homestead exemption applications. The document clarifies that the notice is not a tax bill, with actual bills to be mailed later in 2025 after the Board of Commissioners and other taxing jurisdictions establish new millage rates between July and September 2025. The primary focus is on homestead exemption eligibility and application requirements, including the April 1, 2025 filing deadline for new applications, with a secondary filing period available through July 14, 2025 during the appeal period. All applications must be filed in person at the Tax Assessors' office, and exemptions require ownership and occupancy of the home as of January 1, 2025. The document outlines ten homestead exemption categories, including standard homestead (L1), age-based exemptions for seniors aged 62 and older (L2, L3, L6, L9), permanent disability exemptions (L12), disabled veteran exemptions with age designations (L16, L17, L18, L19), and exemptions for unremarried surviving spouses of service members and first responders (SS, SG).
The notice emphasizes that homestead exemptions are contingent upon meeting specific ownership and occupancy criteria as of January 1, 2025, and that only one county homestead exemption can be applied to a property. Age-related and disability exemptions require new or updated applications. The document serves as an informational guide for property owners regarding their homestead status, which will be reflected by homestead codes on their assessment notice. This notice insert appears to be part of the broader printing and mailing services contract that Henry County has solicited for its Tax Assessors' Office, with submissions due December 10, 2025.
