About this file
This document is a set of Special Provisions for a pedestrian signal improvement project prepared by Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc. for the Village of Schaumburg, located at the intersection of IL Route 72 (Higgins Road) and National Parkway in Cook County, Illinois. The project involves removing existing concrete and paver sidewalks, asphalt paths, and concrete curb and gutter, and constructing new concrete and brick paver sidewalks and paths, combination concrete curb and gutter, installing pedestrian traffic signal equipment on an existing traffic signal, adding pavement markings, and restoring the construction area. The work requires contractors to be prequalified in Electrical and Pavement Markings categories, with the project expected to be completed by June 21, 2024.
The special provisions detail technical specifications for various aspects of the project, including sodding, traffic control, detectable warnings, pedestrian signal posts, electric cable, accessible pedestrian signals, and decorative crosswalk markings. The project will use specific materials like Vitrified Polymer Composite detectable warning tiles, LED pedestrian signal heads, and a specialized three-color Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) marking system to create a faux brick-look crosswalk pattern. Utility coordination is required with multiple agencies including West Shore Pipeline, Wide Open West, ComEd, Comcast, and the Village of Schaumburg. The contractor will be responsible for maintaining the traffic signal installation and will need to have personnel with specific certifications, including IMSA/IPSI Traffic Signal Technician Level II certification.
