About this file

This file is a detailed mechanical system rehabilitation specification for the History Museum at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The project involves comprehensive mechanical system upgrades, including replacing hot water and air systems, with specific focus on installation of new boilers, vents, piping, propane tanks, hot water pumps, air handling units, and building automation system (BAS) monitors and controls.

The specification includes two optional components: Option 1 involves running natural gas lines to the boilers from the Locomotive Shop through an existing utility trench, and Option 2 involves upgrading the chilled water system by disconnecting existing campus distribution pipes, installing a new air-cooled chiller on grade, running new pipes into the History Museum, and providing new chilled water pumps. The project is part of PMIS (Project Management Information System) number 335051, with work to be executed in February 2025. The specification provides extensive technical details on insulation, installation requirements, materials, and performance standards, emphasizing preservation of the historic building's integrity while modernizing its mechanical systems.
