About this file
This document provides information on the transition from DUNS numbers to Unique Entity Identifiers for entities doing business with the federal government. It outlines the process for obtaining a UEI from the System for Award Management and viewing the UEI in an entity's Grants.gov profile. Additionally, it details the new requirement for non-federal Grants.gov users to sign in using Login.gov credentials by linking their Grants.gov and Login.gov accounts. The related federal grant opportunity is for the Department of State's Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs program titled "Strengthening Government Through Civil Society Engagement in Panama" under the federal grant program for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs Grant Programs, including the Energy and Climate Partnership for the Americas.

UNIQUE ENTITY ID
· On April 4, 2022, the U.S. government switched from using the DUNS Number to a new Unique Entity ID (SAM), also known as a UEI.
· What is a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI)?
· A Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) is a unique number assigned to all entities (public and private companies, individuals, institutions, or organizations) who register to do business with the federal government. (U.S. General Services Administration). UEI numbers are obtained from www.sam.gov. The UEI is a 12-character unique number assigned to all entities (public and private companies, individuals, institutions, or organizations) who must register to do business with the federal government in SAM.
· Applicant users who have registered with the System for Award Management (SAM) are now seeing their Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) within Grants.gov.
· Grants.gov now retrieves the UEI from SAM, and all users who have registered with SAM are now seeing their UEI when they log into Grants.gov.
· The UEI is assigned by and viewable within SAM, but Grants.gov users can also find it listed under their organization profile.
1. Log into your Grants.gov account.
2. Click on the My Account link at the top of the page.
3. Click on the Manage Profiles tab on the next screen.
4. Look under the UEI column header for the UEI for each profile that is registered with SAM.
LOGGING INTO GRANTS.GOV
